A Florida man’s questionable parking job got the attention of a Monroe County deputy on September 29. He ended up getting arrested.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy spotted a Ford van in a handicapped space at a Marathon gas station in Marathon around 8:52 p.m.
It didn’t have a handicap placard or plate, and it wasn’t parked very well either. MCSO said the van was parked diagonally, occupying part of another space and sticking out into the street.
The driver came outside while the deputy was checking the van. MCSO said 48-year-old Wanderson Frank Lisboa of Coral Springs refused to give the deputy his ID.
The Van Was Taking up More Than One Spot

The deputy was gathering information on the van when Lisboa came outside. The sheriff’s office said he became argumentative and confrontational.
The man wouldn’t show his ID. The deputy then told him he was being detained. MCSO said he tensed his body, twisted, and pulled away from the deputy.
He Ended up Going to Jail
He was taken into custody, and no injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office said he was charged with resisting arrest and failing to produce identification when asked by law enforcement. His official booking record lists two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer under Florida Statute 843.02.
The same record shows Lisboa was arrested at 9:26 p.m. at 3896 Overseas Highway in Marathon. MCSO also released his mugshot with the arrest announcement.
He Has an October Court Date
His booking record lists an arraignment for October 20 at 8:45 a.m. He will head to court that day to find out what is next.
Florida law allows an officer to check a vehicle parked in a handicapped space and ask to see the disabled parking permit and the person’s driver’s license or state ID.
