Dashcam footage can sometimes be the most interesting thing to watch. It can capture all sorts of incidents and can be useful if someone is involved in an accident. However, one post on Reddit shows how close someone came to being swiped by a semi-truck.
User HigherPerception2629 posted the video on the r/dashcams subreddit, and it shows him sitting at some red lights in his car one evening. It all looks quite normal as the video rolls on, as he patiently waits to cross the road when the lights turn green.
What followed was the lights on the dashcam car turning green before a semi-truck suddenly went straight through the red lights, at a good speed, as if the lights were not red. You can imagine it caused quite a shock to the occupant of the car.
The video was posted on Reddit, and it quickly gained thousands of likes and hundreds of comments. It didn’t take long for the discussion around the video to take place, and it was full of exasperated viewers who couldn’t quite believe what they had seen.
What Was Shown in the Dashcam Footage?
In the video, the driver of the dashcam car is patiently waiting at a red light at a junction. He is aiming to go straight across; meanwhile, traffic is flowing from left to right and vice versa with those lights on green. Everything looks to be going well, and soon we see the other lights start to change from red to amber to indicate to those drivers that they need to prepare to stop.
A few seconds tick by, and they turn red. We then see the lights for the dashcam car tick over to green, and the driver begins to move. Suddenly, he puts the brakes on, and a massive Amazon Prime semi-truck comes roaring across the road to the other side and vanishes over the other side. No wonder the caption simply read “I almost got primed.”
In the video, you can hear the brakes being slammed on by the dashcam driver and a loud honking of the horn at the semi-truck. There are no words shouted or exclaimed, but we can imagine the frustration that the driver felt. Nobody wants to risk their life simply by pulling out at a junction, especially when the lights are clearly green. What is worrying is how long the truck seemed to have to stop, from the lights initially beginning to go amber to them actually turning red.

There was a lot of discussion underneath the video about the incident. Virtually all of it seemed to sympathize with the dashcam driver about what had happened. “Holy hell. He had 10 SECONDS to stop,” said one user. “It truly was 9-10 seconds. I know the trucks are big and stop slowly, but my goodness, that’s how people get killed,” said another one. Those commenters were stunned at the near miss and how fast the driver of the semi-truck was going.
One of them jokingly replied, “He had 14 business days to stop.” Another suggested that the driver of the dashcam car report it to Amazon and the Department of Transport. Someone else said you could spot the truck driver on their phone, which, if true, is a very serious offense and one that should not go unpunished. An accident involving a huge truck going at massive speeds could have had fatal consequences.
