A Texas family was expecting a FedEx package containing roughly $17,400 in gold and silver coins, accompanied by a signature-required request. According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, someone else managed to get the package first using what investigators believe was fictitious identification.

Fort Bend County Burglary & Theft detectives began investigating the missing shipment in early July 2026 after learning that the high-value package had been intercepted. The coins were supposed to be delivered to a Fort Bend County resident and had been sent by a family member.

Investigators eventually identified 28-year-old Artur Kryvytskyi as the suspect who they believe fraudulently obtained the shipment. Detectives also linked him to theft investigations in Montgomery County, Sugar Land, and Houston, according to the sheriff’s office.

What began with one missing package has since grown considerably larger. The sheriff’s office says investigators in numerous jurisdictions across the United States are now looking into similar thefts, although authorities are withholding details about how the packages may have been identified and intercepted while those investigations remain active.

Detectives Say the Case Stretches Beyond One Missing FedEx Package

On September 2, Fort Bend County detectives and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Kryvytskyi’s residence in The Woodlands. Deputies arrested him on felony warrants and said they recovered property believed to have been stolen in separate investigations in Montgomery and Harris counties.

Kryvytskyi was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on felony charges of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, theft of property, and making a false statement to obtain property or credit. He also faces another fraudulent use or possession of identifying information charge stemming from a Houston Police Department case.

In total, he faces a bail amount of $160,000.

Sheriff Eric Fagan described the investigation as an example of how sophisticated theft operations can stretch well beyond a single community. Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging anyone expecting particularly valuable shipments to consider picking them up at staffed carrier locations instead.

Comments and Reactions to the $17K Coin Theft Investigation

A lot of commenters praised detectives for eventually putting the pieces together, with several simply writing “Great job” or “Way to go, detectives!” One person went a little further and asked whether the department could name the investigators so they could get a “High Five” for the work.

Others were much more interested in how someone could supposedly intercept the right package in the first place. One commenter argued that “there’s got to be more to this story,” while others speculated about an inside job, although the sheriff’s office has not said an employee of FedEx or any other delivery company was involved.

That unanswered question seemed to be what made the case especially strange for people reading along. As one commenter put it, “You don’t just ‘intercept’ $17,400 worth of gold and silver,” which is exactly the part investigators are currently declining to explain while similar cases across the country remain under investigation.
