A Michigan State Police trooper and sergeant were already dealing with one suspected drunk driver in Hazel Park when another vehicle stopped behind their patrol car. The second driver was blocking traffic too, and police said there was a loaded gun in their lap.
It happened at approximately 2:17 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6, along eastbound Eight Mile Road near I-75, according to FOX 2 Detroit. Troopers had originally stopped a Hyundai after its driver allegedly sped and impeded traffic.
The Hyundai stopped in the right lane and continued blocking other vehicles. While troopers were handling that situation, a Dodge Durango pulled up behind the patrol car and turned on its hazard lights.
By the end of the morning, both drivers were under arrest, and police had recovered two loaded handguns.
The Durango Driver Wasn’t Pulled Over

The Durango’s driver had not been pulled over but stopped behind the patrol car while troopers were still working with the Hyundai driver.
As the sergeant walked toward the Durango, he spotted an unholstered handgun sitting in the driver’s lap. The driver’s hands were also close to the weapon, so troopers secured it and detained the driver.
A crash, gunfire or any other injuries were not reported.
Another Loaded Gun Was Under the Hyundai’s Seat
Troopers investigated both drivers and determined that each was allegedly operating while intoxicated. They also found another loaded handgun underneath the Hyundai driver’s seat.
Neither person had a concealed pistol license, and both were arrested on suspicion of OWI and carrying a concealed weapon.
Police Did Not Release Their Blood Alcohol Levels
At the time of posting, police have not identified the drivers or released their blood alcohol levels.
The department summed up the arrests by writing, “Two drivers. Two OWI arrests. Two loaded handguns.” They also reminded drivers never to drive impaired.
