Imagine driving along a busy interstate when you suddenly notice two tiny kittens in danger just feet from speeding traffic.
That’s what happened when Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Deputy A. Trujillo spotted two little kittens along Interstate 220. With vehicles traveling at highway speeds, the kittens were in a frightening and potentially dangerous situation.
Trujillo knew he couldn’t just leave them there, so he stopped to help and ensured both kittens were in a safer environment.
A Much Safer Ride
Deputy Trujillo carefully removed both kittens from the interstate and brought them into his patrol vehicle.
For the tiny brothers, it must have been quite a change. They went from being exposed to the hustle and bustle of busy highway traffic to curling up somewhere warm and safe inside a police car.
The kittens were later given names inspired by where they were found: 220 and Lakeshore.
What began as a scary situation quickly turned into a rescue story with a much happier and heartwarming ending.
Two Tiny Survivors
A later update brought even more good news about the kittens.
Both boys were taken to a veterinarian, where they were found to be about four weeks old and weighed just one pound each.
One of the kittens, 220, was being treated with antibiotics and eye drops for an eye infection. The pair is also expected to return to the vet in two weeks to begin their kitten vaccinations.
For such young kittens, getting off the interstate and into caring hands made all the difference.
People Show Their Appreciation
The rescue quickly touched people online, with commenters flooding the post with thanks and praise for Deputy Trujillo.
Some called him a hero, while others joked about giving the kittens jobs as “K9 kitties” or making them the cheer section for the sheriff’s canine partners.
Many people simply thanked the deputy for caring enough to stop and help two animals that desperately needed someone.
For two tiny kittens who found themselves in a terrifying place, the day could have ended very differently. Thankfully, Deputy Trujillo happened to be there at the right moment — and chose to stop. As he described on the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, it was purrfect timing.
