A Lamborghini wearing flashing blue lights might sound like the ultimate Italian highway patrol car, yet chasing speeders won’t be the primary mission of this new Temerario. Its most important journeys will involve cargo where arriving quickly can genuinely make a difference.
Lamborghini has prepared a specially liveried Temerario for the Italian State Police, giving the force a 900-plus-horsepower plug-in hybrid supercar. It will primarily handle emergency transportation of donated organs and critical medical supplies across Italy.
Lamborghini unveiled the Temerario Polizia at its Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters on September 4, continuing a partnership with the Italian State Police that stretches back to 2004. The new car joins other Lamborghinis already serving the force, including the Urus Performante.
It certainly has the performance required for time-sensitive assignments. Underneath the police graphics is Lamborghini’s new hybrid V8 powertrain, capable of producing a combined 920 CV.
This Police Car Packs 907 HP
The Temerario combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors, producing 920 CV, or approximately 907 hp. In the standard road car, that powertrain can launch the Temerario from 0-62 mph in 2.7 seconds and send it to a 213-mph top speed.
The police version is immediately recognizable through its blue-and-white Polizia livery, Italian tricolor detailing, and roof-mounted emergency light bar. Lamborghini hasn’t detailed every modification made for police service, although its specialized medical duties will separate it from the Temerarios heading into private garages.
Lamborghini Police Cars Have A Serious Job
This unusual partnership started with a Lamborghini Gallardo in 2004, which completed its first organ-transport mission that September. The relationship later expanded to include the Gallardo LP 560-4, Huracán, and, most recently, the Urus Performante that entered service in 2023.
Lamborghini says six of its vehicles have joined the Italian State Police fleet during the past 22 years. Collectively, those cars have participated in over 200 organ-transport missions, with the company noting that several of those journeys helped save lives.
The cars also serve a less urgent educational role. Lamborghini says its police vehicles have appeared at over 1,500 road-safety events promoting responsible driving.
The Temerario Takes Over From The Huracán
The Temerario represents a major technological shift from the naturally aspirated V10 Huracán previously used by the police. Its combination of a twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors gives Italy’s latest Lamborghini police car considerably more power while introducing electrification to the supercar side of the fleet.
Few Temerarios will spend their lives carrying medical supplies under flashing blue lights, which makes this example particularly unusual. Its 907 hp certainly grabs attention, although for the Italian State Police, the ability to put that performance to work when every minute counts is ultimately what matters.
