Ram’s Chassis Cab trucks are normally bought for what gets bolted onto the frame behind the cab, not for making a styling statement. For 2027, the company is giving buyers of its hardest-working models an opportunity to change that.
The new Night Edition brings the familiar blacked-out treatment seen elsewhere in Ram’s lineup to the 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab. The package doesn’t increase towing capacity, payload, or horsepower, focusing entirely on giving these commercial trucks a less utilitarian appearance.
Ram unveiled the 2027 Chassis Cab Night Edition at the 2026 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa. The package will be offered on both Regular Cab and Crew Cab configurations, although buyers will need to select either Big Horn or Laramie trim.
That might sound like an unusual place for a cosmetic package, yet chassis cabs frequently become highly visible company vehicles once fitted with utility bodies, flatbeds, boxes, or other equipment. Ram clearly sees an opportunity for those businesses to make the truck itself part of the presentation.
The Night Edition Trades Chrome For Black Trim
On Big Horn models, the Night Edition adds black-painted aluminum wheels and badging along with gloss-black grille elements. Ram also fits its Sport Performance hood, while the grille surround, front bumper, fender flares, and door handles receive body-color finishes.
Laramie models already include several body-color elements, so their Night Edition treatment is slightly different. Black wheels and badging are joined by gloss-black grille billets and nostrils, along with the same Sport Performance hood.
The matte-black running boards shown on Ram’s display trucks aren’t included in the package. Those remain a separate option for customers who want to complete the darker appearance.
The Hemi And Cummins Carry Over
There are no performance upgrades associated with the Night Edition, leaving customers with the Chassis Cab’s existing engine choices. The standard 6.4-liter Hemi V8 produces 375 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.
Buyers needing additional pulling muscle can choose the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six, which produces 360 horsepower and 800 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic transmission.
Depending on configuration, the Chassis Cab can tow as much as 34,540 pounds, while maximum payload reaches 12,370 pounds on the 5500. Ram also offers four cab-to-axle frame lengths, allowing the trucks to accommodate everything from service and utility bodies to ambulances, RVs, and refrigerated boxes.
The Package Starts At $1,695
The Night Edition will cost $2,195 when added to a Big Horn equipped with the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group. Laramie buyers get a slightly lower $1,695 price.
Ram CEO Matt VanDyke said Chassis Cab customers often operate their trucks at their maximum rated capability, while noting that the vehicles can also serve as a “rolling representation” of the businesses that own them. That helps explain why Ram believes a styling package makes sense even on a truck designed primarily to earn its keep.
Orders for the 2027 Ram Chassis Cab Night Edition are scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2026, with availability following later in the year. The trucks will continue to be assembled at Ram’s Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Mexico.
Black wheels and a Sport Performance hood aren’t going to make a 5500 haul any harder. For a work truck that doubles as a company’s rolling billboard, however, looking a little sharper on the job probably isn’t a bad thing.
