Sometimes, the last thing you expect when you arrive at work is to find a duck wandering around Walgreens.

So while police officers are prepared to respond to all kinds of calls, removing a stubborn duck probably does not come up very often.

Officer Murry was called to the store after a duck wandered inside and apparently refused to leave. He safely caught the unexpected customer and transported the bird to nearby Rawhide Creek.

The encounter was captured on video and later shared on the police department’s Facebook page, where the unusual call generated plenty of jokes and praise for the officer.

From Walgreens to Rawhide Creek

After removing the duck from the store, Officer Murry gave his feathered passenger a ride to Rawhide Creek, where it could be released away from traffic and businesses.

Before letting the bird go, the officer encouraged it to make a “big jump” into the water.

The duck appeared to understand the assignment. It jumped straight into the creek and quickly swam away after a brief trip to the store.

Police embraced the unusual nature of the call in their social media post, telling residents they are available to respond to calls for service with “no ifs, ands, or ducks about it.”

All the Duck Jokes

Predictably, Facebook users quickly turned the incident into an opportunity for duck-related humor, so brace yourself for all the puns.

One commenter shared a joke about a duck walking into Walgreens for Chapstick before telling the cashier to “put it on my bill.”

Another wrote that the bird had “ducked around and found out,” while someone else declared, “Consider this case quacked.”

Walgreens also provided plenty of material. Commenters suggested the bird had stopped by to pick up medication, search for snacks or find the “quackers.”

Comments said the officer referred to the bird as Donald (presumably after the famous Disney character), prompting several viewers to point out that the duck appeared to be female. Daisy (Donald Duck’s girlfriend) and Donatella were among the alternative names suggested.

It will likely remain a mystery why and how the duck ended up inside the store in the first place, leaving its original shopping intentions unknown.

Officer Murry Earns Praise

The lighthearted encounter also brought plenty of positive reactions for Officer Murry and the Farmers Branch Police Department.

Residents thanked the officer for taking care of the animal, while one commenter praised police for “serving and protecting all the residents of Farmers Branch.”

Another nearby resident said the incident happened across from their home and thanked officers for looking after the neighborhood ducks.

Some viewers were particularly entertained by the footage itself. One called for more body camera videos like it, while others highlighted the officer’s interactions with the bird.

The department managed to turn an unusual call into a popular community moment while getting the wandering Walgreens visitor back to the water safely.

As one commenter appropriately put it, “Duck, duck go!”
