Released in 2022, Gran Turismo 7 is still one of the most popular racing games money can buy right now. Since its initial launch, a plethora of new cars, tracks, and other features have been added to massively expand the incredible game.

Yet even with the number of cars already in the game, Polyphony, the creators of the game, still have a lot of surprises they can spring upon us. A recent video on the Gran Turismo TV YouTube channel revealed that a new race car, and an unexpected one, was coming to the game.

An update originally planned for August 7th, which has now supposedly been pushed back to August 20th, is set to include what Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi said will be “four niche cars.” These were set to be the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, Caterham Seven, Toyota Mark II Tourer V, and the Toyota Chaser Tourer V.

Yet here we are, and a surprise addition is heading our way following this August update. The video features Ikuo Maeda from Mazda, who helped create the Mazda RX-Vision we saw at the 2025 Tokyo Motor Show. In the video, he revealed that the next revolution of the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept is coming to Gran Turismo 7.

Why Is Gran Turismo 7 Getting the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept?

There might be even more surprise in this announcement when people remember that Gran Turismo has already had the RX-Vision GT3 Concept. The car came in the last release, Gran Turismo Sport, and it was a car exclusively designed for the previous version of the game. But this isn’t just a porting over of that existing car.

As the title of the video suggested, this is the next evolution of the incredible concept car. As Maeda said in the video, over 400,000 people have driven the original concept in the game. Mazda’s representative drivers have also gotten behind the wheel of the car in the Gran Turismo World Series esports tournament.

“Watching them drive it, a thought that had always been in the back of my mind was, ‘Can’t we evolve this RX-Vision even further as a racing car?'” Maeda said in the video. “On top of that, I wanted to envision its evolution on the track,” he added. Mazda’s design team then began to rework and refine the original design that we first saw in Gran Turismo Sport, alongside Polyphony.

Teaser Images Give Us a Look at the New Mazda RX-Vision GT3

The redesigned car is the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo, signifying the evolution of the original design. The car has undergone quite the transformation, based on the teaser images shown off by Mazda and Polyphony. In the images, the car looks to have had a very heavily redesigned rear end, with a bigger rear wing and a far more aggressive diffuser arrangement.

The front of the Mazda has also had some upgrades. Again, extra aggression is the name of the game here, with a striking-looking aero arrangement, particularly around the headlights. Both the game creators and Mazda have been careful not to give too much away, but what we have already seen is enough to make us incredibly excited for the revealed car. We think we might need to make sure our PlayStation is on hand and ready to go.
