The video, which aired exclusively on CBS13 in Sacramento, shows a man riding up to a home on Raleigh Drive on a bicycle, carrying a gas can. He takes a moment to look the red Corvette over before dousing it in fuel. At one point in the clip, he appears to take a drink straight from the gas can itself, which is the kind of detail that makes this story stand out even among the usual run of car crime headlines.
Within seconds of the dousing, the Corvette is fully engulfed in flames. The man doesn’t run off afterward either. According to the report, he stuck around across the street to watch the car burn until first responders arrived.
Stockton Police identified the suspect as Emmanuel Ariza Martinez, who is now in custody and facing a felony arson charge. His motive has not been made public. The car’s owner told CBS Sacramento that the Corvette is a total loss, and neighbors say the smell of the fire was still lingering in the area well after the vehicle had been towed away.
