Liam Neeson is returning to the action-thriller genre in The Mongoose, an upcoming film centered on a high-speed cross-country pursuit. While Neeson leads the cast, automotive fans may find their attention drawn to the car carrying him through much of the chaos: a 2026 Shelby Super Snake based on the latest Ford Mustang.
The film follows Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, a decorated Afghanistan war veteran who is accused of a crime he insists he did not commit. After going on the run, Flanagan becomes the target of a heavily publicized police chase, with the pursuit unfolding across several states and attracting widespread attention. Honestly, this sounds a bit like the plot of the cult-classic Vanishing Point movie.
Samuel Goldwyn Films will release The Mongoose in U.S. theaters on October 30, 2026. Neeson is joined by Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames, and Michael Chiklis, while Mark Vanselow, a longtime stunt collaborator and former stunt double for Neeson, directs the film.
The trailer is packed with roadblocks, helicopters, crashes, explosions, and police vehicles, although the Shelby quickly emerges as one of the most memorable elements. Its aggressive styling and unmistakable badging make it a fitting choice for a movie built around speed, pursuit, and spectacle.
The Mustang Plays A Major Role In The Chase
In the trailer, Neeson’s character appears to select the Mustang before using it to escape pursuing officers. The car is finished with Shelby branding, widened bodywork, large wheels, a prominent rear wing, and several aerodynamic components associated with the current Super Snake package.
It is not yet clear whether the production used an authentic Shelby Super Snake throughout filming or whether standard Mustang GTs were modified to resemble one for stunt sequences. Movie productions often rely on several visually identical cars, with some reserved for close-up shots and others prepared specifically for jumps, crashes, or high-speed driving.
Based on the exterior details visible in the footage, the car appears closer to the standard Super Snake than the more track-focused Super Snake-R. The wheels, rear treatment, and bodywork resemble Shelby’s current road-oriented model, although the trailer does not reveal whether the car retains the full production powertrain.
The Super Snake Delivers More Than 830 Horsepower
The 2026 Shelby Super Snake is based on the current S650-generation Ford Mustang GT and uses Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8. In its most powerful form, the engine receives a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger that increases output to more than 830 horsepower when running on 93-octane fuel.
Customers can choose between automatic and manual transmissions. Manual-equipped cars receive a short-throw shifter, and all Super Snakes benefit from a range of upgrades intended to improve durability, cooling, and performance.
The package includes stronger half shafts, a Shelby-tuned suspension system, a high-capacity cooling setup, a Borla exhaust, upgraded brake rotors, and hardened extended wheel studs. Forged 20-inch magnesium wheels help reduce rotational mass, while performance tires provide the additional grip needed to manage the car’s considerable power.
Shelby Gives The Mustang A More Aggressive Appearance
The Super Snake receives extensive exterior changes that separate it from a standard Mustang GT. Shelby installs an aluminum hood with carbon-fiber extractors, wider front fenders, a redesigned front fascia, a lower splitter, revised side rockers, and a carbon-fiber rear diffuser.
Coupe models can also be fitted with a large carbon-fiber rear wing, while a ducktail spoiler adds another visual link to Shelby’s performance heritage. Inside, the changes are more restrained but still include branded upholstery details, embroidered floor mats, unique sill plates, a special shifter ball for manual cars, and serialized plaques on the dashboard and engine.
The upgrades come with a starting price of $176,835, based on a 2026 Mustang GT with a manual transmission. Shelby plans to build only 300 examples for the U.S. market, with a limited number of additional cars available internationally.
Another Mustang Heads To The Big Screen
The Ford Mustang has a long history in film, with famous appearances ranging from the Highland Green fastback in Bullitt to the classic muscle cars associated with the John Wick series. The Super Snake continues that tradition with a far more modern mix of supercharged power, advanced cooling, aggressive aerodynamics, and limited-production exclusivity.
The car gives The Mongoose a strong automotive identity. Neeson may be the headline star, although an 830-horsepower Shelby charging through roadblocks and outrunning police helicopters is unlikely to remain in the background for long.
