Most people who visit the Space Needle come away with a nice photo of the Seattle skyline and maybe a sore neck from craning it upward. Two guys who showed up on a Friday night had bigger plans. According to police, the pair bought tickets, walked in like everyone else at around 8:50 p.m., and made their way up to the observation deck just like any other tourists.

Except these tourists weren’t there for the view. Security footage reportedly showed them scoping out the deck for a while before ducking into a restroom. They came out wearing helmets, which is usually not a great sign unless you’re headed to a construction site or, apparently, about to fling yourself off a 605-foot tower.

From there, things moved fast. The men ran to the glass barrier, climbed over it, and stepped onto the narrow ledge outside. One of them threw in a backflip for good measure before both parachuted down into the Seattle night.

A TikTok video from user .sherpachai captured the whole thing, racking up views with the caption noting she was just trying to enjoy her evening view when this happened right in front of her.

How Did Nobody Notice the Gear?

“How did security and staff not notice two guys enter with harnesses, parachutes, and helmets?”

That’s the question everyone in the comments wanted answered, and it’s a fair one. Parachutes and harnesses aren’t exactly pocket-sized. The likely answer, based on the reply from the video’s own poster, is that the gear was packed into backpacks and only assembled once they were already up top.

Sneaky, sure. Smart, also sure, in the same way a lot of dumb ideas are executed with surprising precision.

Just How High Is the Space Needle?

@.sherpachai These guys literally sprinted out the bathrooms, scaled the walls, and jumped off the space needle while I’m enjoying my view of Seattle!! 😂😂 #seattle #spaceneedle #jump #skydive #fyp @Space Needle ♬ original sound – Sherpa Chai

For context, the observation deck sits roughly 605 feet up, which is nothing to sneeze at even for experienced BASE jumpers. Witnesses said one of the parachutes cleared traffic and landed on the roof of a nearby hotel, while another jumper came down near the Bite of Seattle festival happening at the base of the tower.

So yes, there was quite a bit of open air and unpredictable landing zones involved.

Is This Actually Illegal?

Short answer, yes. Police confirmed the men face trespassing charges, and the Space Needle itself called it an illegal incident in a statement, noting they’re cooperating with investigators. As of now, the two men haven’t been identified, and it’s unclear if or when that will happen.

For now, the case remains open, and the Space Needle is reviewing security footage to figure out exactly how two guys pulled off a caped-crusader exit from one of the most photographed buildings on the West Coast. Whether they’re ever tracked down is anyone’s guess, but their TikTok cameo isn’t going anywhere.
