A man in Westlake, Ohio, was arrested after allegedly admitting to drinking and driving. Shockingly, as per the police, he had been driving a vehicle equipped with only one inflated tire, and sparks were everywhere as he drove “on all rims.”
According to a post made by the Westlake Police Department in Ohio, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 30. At around 3 a.m., a concerned citizen observed a car and immediately contacted the authorities.
The caller reported that a white Chevy Impala was driving on I90 W/B through Columbia. While a late-night/early-morning drive can be risky, the caller had observed a very worrisome sign.
According to the witness, the Impala was “riding on all rims,” and all over the roadway. And when an officer approached the individual, he corroborated the caller’s account.
‘On All Rims’
Footage shared by the WPD showed a patrol car on I90 W/B. Suddenly, the white Impala appeared in the vehicle’s dashcam footage, changing lanes without proper signaling.
However, what impressed the officer most was that the vehicle was operating on only a single inflated tire. Furthermore, sparks from beneath the vehicle could be seen flying across the interstate.
The officers conducted a traffic stop on the car near Crocker Rd. The car began to slow down, eventually coming to a full stop on the shoulder of the interstate.
Mom Talk
The officer approached the vehicle shortly after the sparks subsided. He was quick to note that, other than the lack of tires, the car itself was “heavily damaged.”
Then the WPD agent attempted to contact the man and speak with him. The 33-year-old individual, who remains unnamed, had his mind placed somewhere else.
As per the police, the man said that he was on the phone with his mother. Therefore, he didn’t feel comfortable just hanging up the phone to attend to the officer’s wishes to engage in conversation.
Intoxication Admission
The police said that the man appeared to be intoxicated, and added that he admitted to drinking tequila. Still, he allegedly told the officer, “I didn’t even drink that much.”
Field sobriety tests were conducted. Shortly after, the man was placed under arrest. Police said that the officer found a loaded 9mm handgun inside the vehicle.
The unnamed man is charged with operating a vehicle impaired (OVI), not having a driver’s license, and felony improper handling of a firearm. He is also accused of refusing to take a breathalyzer test.
The man didn’t explain how his vehicle became so damaged. For the time being, the “riding on all rims” episode will remain a mystery.
