A man in Port St. Lucie, Florida, is facing multiple charges after he was allegedly found unconscious in his running vehicle by a Dave & Buster’s employee. As per the police, not only did he become “belligerent” when he was woken up, but he also threatened a responding officer’s life.
According to a news release issued by the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD), the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 30. At around 12:40 a.m., police officers responded to a local Dave & Buster’s parking lot.
The agents had been informed that an employee had discovered a driver asleep behind the wheel, police said. The individual’s vehicle was running at the time.
It was a Dave & Buster’s employee who, apparently, at the end of her shift, had come across the sleeping man. However, when she approached to check on him, the man woke up and allegedly “became belligerent and began acting erratically.” The employee called 911, but this behaviour would only escalate moving forward.
Police Come Across Sleeping Man
PSLPD officers arrived at the scene and observed the vehicle described by the employee. Inside, they found the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Anthony Rosales, sleeping, again.
As they assessed the situation, officers observed multiple worrying signs. According to the PSLPD, the first one was a very noticeable alcohol odor.
However, an item inside the car piqued the officer’s interest the most. Allegedly, they observed an open alcohol bottle in the car with the unconscious Rosales.
Threats Given, Hands Cuffed
The police department detailed that Rosales’ level of impairment was severe. This immediately left field sobriety exercises out of the question, as he was allegedly too drunk to take part in them.
Instead, officers transported Rosales to the Port St. Lucie Police Department for a breath test. According to the authorities, his breath sample registered 0.124. Florida’s legal limit is 0.08. Furthermore, Rosales was previously convicted of a DUI earlier in 2026.
Things wouldn’t stop there for Rosales, however. Allegedly, not only did he resist officers, but he also attempted to batter one of them. Moreover, he is also accused of threatening to kill the arresting officers, along with his family.
Charges
Anthony Rosales faces multiple serious charges. These are DUI (second offense), resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, threats against a law enforcement officer, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
While his DUI charge could land him in jail for up to 9 months, his alleged violence against officers is far more serious, sentence-wise. He could spend up to 15 years behind bars if convicted on all charges.
In the end, the PSLPD commended the Dave & Buster’s employee’s actions. The police department added, “Her decision to call 911 may have prevented a dangerous impaired driver from getting onto our roadways.”
