A chance encounter outside a closed car dealership led to a heartwarming rescue after a skinny cat crawled beneath a chain link fence and approached a woman who immediately realised she needed help.
Animal rescuer Sam was driving home on a chilly evening in April when she noticed movement inside the locked dealership lot. Although the business had already closed for the day, she felt compelled to stop and investigate after spotting something moving between the parked vehicles.
Calling out toward the lot, Sam was greeted by a small white and tan cat who appeared at the fence meowing.
With years of experience rescuing animals, Sam kept cat food in her vehicle. She grabbed a can and offered it through the fence, encouraging the hungry feline to come closer.
Within moments, the cat squeezed underneath the chain link fence and ran straight toward her rescuer.
Hungry but Incredibly Friendly
The cat immediately devoured the food, appearing as though she had not eaten for days. While she was noticeably underweight and covered in dirt, Sam quickly recognised something that made her story different from many other stray cats.
Rather than keeping her distance, the cat happily approached people and appeared comfortable around them.
Sam later explained that she knew almost instantly the cat was not feral, leading her to suspect she had once belonged to a family before somehow ending up alone.
Although it remains unclear exactly how the cat found herself living around the dealership or how long she had survived there, Sam knew she could not leave her behind after seeing her condition and friendly nature.
An Unusual Journey to the Veterinarian
After finishing her meal, the cat willingly allowed Sam to pick her up. However, there was one small complication.
Despite happily being held, the cat refused to enter the pet carrier Sam had brought with her.
Instead of forcing the issue, Sam improvised by placing the cat on the front passenger seat of her car.
To her surprise, the feline calmly remained there throughout the journey without causing any trouble.
The Dodo reported Sam drove directly to a veterinary clinic, where staff examined the cat and discovered she had already been spayed. The finding strengthened Sam’s belief that the animal had previously lived in a home before being abandoned.
Thankfully, apart from being underweight, the cat was generally healthy and required no major medical treatment. Sam decided to foster her while searching for the right permanent family. She named the cat Adeline.
Adeline Settles Into Her Forever Home
Adeline quickly adjusted to life indoors, fitting in well alongside Sam’s three resident cats.
Although Sam had become attached to her newest foster, she believed Adeline would thrive in a quieter household where she could receive plenty of individual attention.
After taking time to find the right adopters, Sam introduced Adeline to a couple who instantly connected with the affectionate cat.
The meeting proved to be the perfect match, and Adeline officially found her forever home.
Now, the once-neglected cat who had wandered beneath a dealership fence in search of help spends her days enjoying the comfort, safety and affection every pet deserves.
For Sam, seeing Adeline flourish has been the greatest reward.
She continues to receive updates from the adoptive family and says following the lives of the animals she rescues always brings her joy.
What began as a routine drive home and a brief glance toward a dark car dealership ultimately transformed Adeline’s life, proving that sometimes stopping to investigate something unusual can make all the difference.
