It’s not every day a roadside rescue requires fast food. But sometimes, you have to improvise — especially when a kitten is involved.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office found itself at the center of an unusual animal rescue that quickly got the internet talking.
Curious how a drumstick, a car engine, and a resourceful deputy all come together? Let’s find out.
What would you do if you had a kitten stuck deep in your engine bay? For one Georgia deputy, the answer was simple: get creative and get to work.
How a Drumstick Became a Rescue Tool
A Georgia deputy had to think outside the box when a kitten became trapped inside a car engine — and his unlikely rescue tool was a drumstick.

Kitten Trouble
School Resource Officer Nick Jackson with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office was working election security near Spout Springs Library when he spotted two women pulled over with the hood of their vehicle raised.
Thinking they might need help, Jackson walked over to check on them. That’s when the women explained they had already rescued two kittens from inside the vehicle, but a third was trapped deep in the engine compartment near the transmission.
Why Do Cats Love Car Engines?
With the frightened kitten refusing to come out, Jackson slipped on a pair of gloves and grabbed the most surprising rescue tool available — a spare drumstick.
Using the drumstick to gently coax the kitten into a better position, Jackson patiently worked until he was finally able to safely pull the tiny black-and-white feline from the engine.
When Rescues Go Viral
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office shared body camera footage of the rescue on social media, jokingly challenging Hall County Fire Rescue after firefighters recently made headlines for rescuing a dog.
“I am happy you had the drumstick in the car, it distracts them!” the officer said.
Kittens Saved
Fortunately, all three kittens were rescued safely, thanks to Jackson’s quick thinking, patience, and a little help from an unexpected drumstick.
The heartwarming rescue quickly captured attention online, with many praising the deputy’s compassion and creative approach to saving the stranded kitten.
