A woman in Baltimore, Maryland, was shocked to see that someone had broken into her car and stolen her belongings. Sad at first, she would then burst into happiness, as one of her neighbors left a box on her porch. Inside, she found the stolen items.

As reported by CBS News Baltimore, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 21. Jiri Cruz walked out of her home on Druid Hill Avenue and noticed that someone had broken into her car.

Reportedly, she came out to check the scene hours after the fact. She only learned that something had happened after one of her neighbors reached out to her and told her what they had seen in front of her house.

Her vehicle’s windows were broken, and pieces of glass lay on the floor. The shock soon turned to worry, however, after she realized that the suspects had taken valuable items from her car.

Valuable Items, Gone

The items in question were stashed in two boxes inside her car. These were meant to improve a neighborhood green space, and, as reported by WMAR2, were a garden bed and a doggy waste bin.

Furthermore, both items were purchased thanks to a crowdfunding effort and a grant. This, of course, left Jiri devastated.

“It wasn’t my money I used to purchase these things, and I would have had to replace it eventually,” the woman said. “They’re waiting for these items; my neighbors know it’s coming.”

Valuable Items, Not Gone

Jiri then checked the footage recorded by the doorbell camera in an effort to find out who took the items inside her car. Little did she know that she would find, instead, a sigh of relief.

The footage shared by both outlets showed a neighbor of hers dropping off a package on her doorstep. Inside it, the woman found the stolen items.

Furthermore, another neighbor told Jiri that the individual shown in the clip had apparently confronted the alleged thieves. Jiri told WMAR2 that she believed that the suspects dropped the packages as a result.

A Search

While she has now placed garbage bags with tape where her car windows used to be, Jiri Cruz is touched by such an act of courage and selflessness. Now, she only wants to meet the person shown in the doorbell footage.

“I want to thank them, I want to hug them, I have a thank-you card I want to give them,” Jiri said. “People turn a blind eye to a lot of things; that person didn’t. They took action, and we need more of that.”

Reportedly, the Baltimore Police Department said that no footage of the actual break-in was available. No arrests have been made as of June 22.
