A Philadelphia woman is taking matters into her own hands after thieves stole her SUV, launching her own search effort and offering a unique reward to anyone who helps bring it home.
Wendy Wolf, who lives in the Port Richmond neighborhood, discovered that her blue Honda CR V had vanished from outside her home early Saturday morning. At first, she thought she might have simply forgotten where she parked.
As the reality of the theft set in, Wolf began driving around the city herself, checking streets, parking lots and garages in hopes of spotting the missing vehicle. Nearly a week after it disappeared, she had no intention of giving up.
“I feel like I’m going to do this forever until it’s found,” Wolf told NBC Philadelphia.
Her determination reflects the emotional connection she has with the vehicle, which served not only as transportation but also as a vital part of her volunteer work rescuing cats throughout the area.
Vehicle Theft Remains a Concern Across Philadelphia

NBC Philadelphia reported Wolf’s experience comes as car theft continues to be a major issue throughout Philadelphia. According to recent figures, more than 1,100 vehicles were stolen across the city over the previous 28 days, with hundreds of those thefts occurring within the past week. Auto theft overall is down slightly compared with the same period a year ago, but residents remain concerned.
Wolf said conversations with neighbors revealed that stolen vehicles are becoming increasingly common in her community.
She recalled learning that another car had been taken from her street just a month earlier. Looking back, she wishes she had been more aware of the risks.
To protect her vehicle, Wolf stored her keys inside a Faraday box, which is designed to block electronic signals and prevent thieves from cloning key fobs. Following the theft, she also installed a steering wheel lock on the family’s remaining vehicle.
Despite those precautions, she said losing the SUV has been heartbreaking.
“It took me a couple of hours to really realize it was gone,” she said. “I was so sad.”
Search Expands Beyond Port Richmond
Determined to recover the SUV, Wolf has widened her search beyond her neighborhood. She has driven through Kensington, Camden and other areas where stolen vehicles are sometimes abandoned or hidden.
Her efforts have turned into a personal mission. Friends, neighbors and fellow residents have shared information and kept watch for the missing Honda.
Wolf hopes that someone somewhere may recognize the vehicle and provide a tip that leads to its recovery.
She believes community involvement is essential and remains optimistic that persistence will eventually pay off.
While many theft victims rely solely on police investigations, Wolf’s hands-on approach has attracted attention and sympathy from people across the region.
Homemade Banana Bread Becomes Part of the Reward
Along with a cash reward, Wolf is offering something much more personal to anyone who helps locate her SUV.
Known for her baking skills, she said she would gladly prepare homemade chocolate pecan banana bread and cookies for the person who provides information leading to the vehicle’s recovery.
“If someone found my car, I would absolutely give them bread and cookies,” she said.
The unusual reward has resonated with many people, turning Wolf’s search into a story that has captured hearts throughout Philadelphia.
As she continues driving through neighborhoods and checking parking lots, Wolf remains hopeful that her beloved Honda CR V will eventually be found.
Until then, she says she will keep looking, one street at a time, with fresh baked treats ready for whoever helps bring her vehicle back home.
