An 18-year-old man in Monroe County, Michigan, will face multiple charges after allegedly ramming a vehicle with his car, fleeing police, and using a baseball bat to damage a patrol unit. He was eventually stopped, as per the sheriff’s office, with a taser.

As reported by WTOL, citing the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the series of events described above began on Sunday, June 14. At around 6:45 p.m., deputies responded to The Orchards Mobile Home Community, located on Heritage Lane in Ash Township.

A couple contacted the authorities after their 18-year-old son had left their home. According to them, he had made troubling statements that “raised concerns for his well-being and the safety of others,” the MCSO said in a news release, as per CBS News Detroit.

The concerned parents provided deputies with their son’s approximate location after he allegedly took their car. Thanks to this, MCSO deputies managed to narrow the search to Interstate 75 near South Huron River Drive.

Vehicle Ramming

During the search, a couple traveling southbound on I-75 called 911. They reported that a driver had intentionally rammed their vehicle into theirs multiple times.

After the couple described the vehicle, the MCSO determined that it matched the one the aforementioned 18-year-old had driven off with from the Ash Township home. Deputies responded to the area shortly after.

A deputy then spotted the teenager’s vehicle traveling near North Telegraph Road and Sigler Road. He attempted to conduct a traffic stop, to no avail.

Pursuit Follows

The 18-year-old allegedly fled the scene, speeding westbound on Sigler Road. The pursuit continued on Grafton Road through the Village of Carleton. At that point, the pursuit ended due to public safety concerns.

Near The Orchards Mobile Home Community, an officer with the South Rockwood Police Department spotted the vehicle. The vehicle stopped, and the teenager exited it.

However, as per the MCSO, the teenager came out with a baseball bat. Just after the South Rockwood officer arrived, the 18-year-old allegedly struck his patrol car, damaging it.

Taser Used, Teen Arrested

An MCSO deputy involved in the initial pursuit responded to The Orchards. There, he observed the suspect moving towards him. As per the MCSO, he did so in a “threatening manner.”

Therefore, the deputy used his service Taser to prevent a further escalation of violence. The teenager was then placed under arrest.

The 18-year-old’s physical disdain aimed at the deputies wouldn’t stop there. While in custody, the teen allegedly assaulted one MCSO deputy, causing facial injuries. The deputy was transported to a local hospital as a result, where he received treatment, and later returned to duty.

Currently, the 18-year-old suspect, who remains unnamed, is at the Monroe County Jail. Charges are still pending review by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, WTOL reported.
