A woman in New Braunfels, Texas, will spend the next two decades behind bars after being convicted of drug charges stemming from a 2022 incident. Reportedly, following a traffic stop, she staged bags of methamphetamine in a patrol car in an attempt to conceal them.
According to a statement shared by the Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, 41-year-old Melissa Gayla Escobedo pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance PG 1 > 4 Grams < 200 Grams (methamphetamine). Visiting Judge Dan Mills sentenced her to 20 years in prison.
The DA’s office detailed that the charge was filed in connection with an incident that occurred on August 4, 2022. At the time, New Braunfels Police Department (NBPD) officers conducted a traffic stop on North Business IH-35.
NBPD officers identified Escobedo as the driver. A male passenger inside the vehicle was found to have an active warrant out of Bexar County, but the revelations didn’t stop there.
Admission, Arrest
During the traffic stop, Escobedo admitted to being in possession of methamphetamine. The illegal substance was inside her purse, she said. As a result, officers took her into custody.
The 41-year-old woman and the male passenger were subsequently transported to the Comal County Jail for booking. Shortly after, however, the arresting officer conducted a routine inspection of his patrol car’s backseat.
The officer came across two plastic bags. Each contained a “large amount” of meth. It had been tucked under the partition divider, “near the inside corner of the vehicle,” the statement revealed.
‘I Have It In My Bra’
It was confirmed that the only passengers who had been recently transported in the unit’s backseat were Escobedo and the male passenger. As a result, the officer further investigated the situation.
While reviewing his in-car camera footage, the officer came across a conversation between Escobedo and the passenger. In it, as per the DA’s office, Escobedo could be heard telling him, “[Expletive] dude, I have it in my bra.”
Moments later, footage showed Escobedo slipping one of her hands out of her handcuffs while sitting in the patrol car’s backseat. Then, slowly, she removed the drugs from her bra and placed them where the officer ultimately found them.
Similar Meth Bust
Escobedo’s conviction comes two months after Fort Worth police allegedly came across millions of dollars’ worth of methamphetamine following a car accident. As per the department, the incident occurred near Delga Street on April 16, 2026.
Responding officers came across a car that had struck an unoccupied parked vehicle and later came to a stop. Inside the wrecked car, police found a deceased male.
Inside the vehicle, police found ten buckets of liquid, all of which were expelling fumes, which resulted in a firefighter being hospitalized. Following testing, the liquid was presumptive positive for methamphetamine. In total, 480 pounds were seized, all of which were valued at a whopping $1 to 3 million.
