Man Knocked Unconscious After Unprovoked Attack By Driver Flashing Their High Beams

A Pasadena, California driver was beaten unconscious early Saturday morning after he stopped his vehicle and got out when another driver flashed high beams at him from the opposite direction. The other driver didn’t stop. An unknown attacker was waiting for him on the street.

According to the Pasadena Police Department, the victim is a 63-year-old man who had been driving northbound on Raymond Avenue near Washington Boulevard at about 1 a.m. Saturday. He saw the other vehicle’s high beams flash at him from the southbound direction. Then he stopped his vehicle and got out. He was then assaulted by an unknown suspect.

Police are describing the assault as unprovoked. The victim was struck unconscious and suffered a three-inch deep laceration to his head. He regained consciousness on the street.

The victim drove himself to Huntington Hospital after regaining consciousness. Police responded to the hospital at about 1:20 a.m. for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation began there.

What Police Say Happened

According to a Pasadena Police Department spokesperson, the victim was driving northbound when he saw a vehicle traveling southbound flashing its high beams at him. He stopped his vehicle and got out, then was assaulted by an unknown suspect. The man didn’t appear to have met the suspect before.

The man was rendered unconscious by the attack and suffered a three-inch deep laceration to his head, according to the police account relayed to KTLA. After regaining consciousness, he drove himself to Huntington Hospital, the agency said. At about 1:20 a.m., police responded to the hospital for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and began their investigation.

Where the Investigation is Going

When officers met the victim at the hospital, he told them his injuries had left him unable to provide a description of his attacker, of the suspect’s vehicle, or of the weapon that had been used, according to the agency.

He also wasn’t able to give police the exact location of the assault, although Pasadena police confirmed it had occurred somewhere near Raymond Avenue and Washington Boulevard. La Pintoresca Park sits near that intersection. The Pasadena Police Department have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
