A Washington County man was arrested after deputies used drone technology to track his movements following a report of vehicle damage in a residential neighbourhood.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on May 30 when a 911 caller reported a man damaging a vehicle outside a home on Southwest 179th Avenue in Aloha, Oregon. Authorities said the suspect was allegedly punching a parked car before fleeing the scene. Deputies were dispatched to investigate and quickly deployed a drone to assist in locating the individual.
The use of aerial technology allowed law enforcement officers to maintain visual contact with the suspect while reducing the need for a potentially dangerous foot pursuit.
Drone Tracks Suspect’s Movements
Video released by the sheriff’s office shows the drone following the suspect as he ran through the neighbourhood toward Southwest Barcelona Lane. The aerial footage provided deputies with real-time information about the suspect’s location and movements.
Authorities identified the suspect as 21-year-old Santos Paulino Castro-Ramirez. Investigators said he attempted to evade deputies by moving through nearby streets before entering a white SUV parked on Southwest Barcelona Lane. According to officials, the vehicle did not belong to him.
The drone continued monitoring the situation from above, allowing responding officers to coordinate their approach safely and efficiently.
Arrest Made Without Major Incident
Deputies were able to take Castro-Ramirez into custody without any significant confrontation. The aerial surveillance provided by the drone helped officers maintain awareness of the suspect’s whereabouts and reduced the risk of losing sight of him during the pursuit.
Following his arrest, Castro-Ramirez was booked into the Washington County Jail. He faces charges including first-degree burglary and attempted second-degree theft. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged vehicle entry or whether further charges may be filed.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
