A couple in Pembroke, Virginia, is facing multiple charges after they allegedly assaulted first responders. At the time, as per the police, responders were trying to put out their burning car.
As reported by the Giles County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), the incident occurred on Monday, June 1. At around 8:45 a.m., authorities were alerted to a vehicle on fire at Tangeon Outdoors in Pembroke.
Upon arrival, Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department staff began to put out the fire. They, however, were met with interference.
Allegedly, the occupants of the burning vehicle were preventing the fire department from doing its job. As a result, the PVFD asked for law enforcement assistance.
Police Responds to the Scene
Members of the GCSO arrived at the scene after the assistance call. Shortly after, things escalated.
The occupants of the burning car allegedly assaulted various first responders while their vehicle was still emitting smoke. As per the GCSO, two of its members and three PVFD members were assaulted while attempting to control the scene.
Footage shared online shows the moment in which the two occupants engage in a heated argument with deputies and fire department staff. The confrontation escalated into a brawl, after which both individuals were placed in handcuffs.
Two of the GCSO members had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, they were released shortly after.
Couple Identified, Juvenile Present
The GCSO has since released the names of the two occupants involved in the incident. Deputies identified them as 44-year-old Tynisha Lenea Scott of Gallion, Alabama, and 40-year-old Robert Leon Bryan of Eureka, California.
Additionally, a juvenile was present at the scene, as he was the third occupant of the vehicle. A bystander was monitoring the boy, as shown in the clip linked above, from a distance.
Following the alleged assault, Scott and Bryan were arrested. They were later booked into the New River Valley Regional Jail.
Couple Arrested and Charged
Tynisha Lenea Scott is charged with resisting arrest, child endangerment, three counts of assault on a firefighter, and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer. The assault charges could land her in prison for years, with up to five years in prison for each of the officers and firefighters assaulted.
Meanwhile, Robert Leon Bryan was charged with resisting arrest, child endangerment, three counts of assault on a firefighter, and one count of assault on a law enforcement officer.
Scoot and Bryan are currently being held without bond.
