A driver was temporarily trapped inside a flipped Chevy Equinox after a two-vehicle crash in Aberdeen, North Carolina, on Tuesday morning. Firefighters had to cut through the SUV’s windshield to get the person out. A medical helicopter was placed on stand-by during the rescue, but ultimately was not needed.

The collision happened on U.S. 1 at the entrance of Dogwood Drive, across from a Harbor Freight store, the Sandhills Sentinel reported. A Chevy Equinox and a Hyundai sedan were involved. The Equinox ended up on its side; the Hyundai sustained heavy front-end damage.

Air care had been placed on stand-by while the rescue effort was underway. That posture ended once the driver of the SUV was freed and on the way to a local hospital. Both drivers from the crash were taken to the hospital by Moore County EMS.

The investigation into what caused the two vehicles to meet at the entrance of Dogwood Drive is in its earliest stage. Aberdeen Police were among the agencies at the scene. At the time the Sandhills Sentinel posted its account, the cause of the crash was not yet clear.
