A pickup came to rest on another vehicle after a crash in New Plymouth, Idaho. A woman was trapped inside. Help came from a crane crew that happened to be passing on the road.

The Payette County Sheriff’s Office shared the rescue on Nov. 3, the day of the crash. The wreck was at Highway 52 and Highway 72. County dispatch received a 911 call at 7:01 a.m.

A nurse saw the crash and stopped to help before emergency crews arrived. The sheriff’s office described her care as lifesaving aid.

A photo with the post shows the pickup’s front wheels off the ground. A dark vehicle sits partly beneath it in tall grass beside the road. The pickup’s front bumper and hood are badly damaged.

As New Plymouth and Sand Hollow fire crews arrived, they saw a large crane heading the other way. They asked Deputy Travis Downey to catch up with it and ask the operator for help.

Downey stopped the crane, and the crew came straight to the scene to help. They work for Orizabas Crane Service in Emmett. Payette County Paramedics, the Payette Fire Department, and the sheriff’s office also took part in the response.

Sheriff Andy Creech said he believed the crew’s quick thinking and actions saved the woman’s life. “We cannot thank them enough,” he said.

“This is what community is about: strangers stepping up without hesitation when someone needs help the most,” Creech said. He also thanked the nurse and every emergency responder at the scene.

Payette County Paramedics took the woman to a hospital with minor injuries, and she was expected to be okay. No one in the pickup was hurt.
