Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC was involved in a crash with a garbage truck on a Los Angeles freeway Friday. The rapper was in a black SUV when it collided with the blue truck, according to KTLA.
California Highway Patrol officers received the call at 11:43 a.m. on October 30, 2026, on the eastbound 105 Freeway near the 110 Freeway, NBC Los Angeles reported. Officers found McDaniels complaining of minor pain when they arrived.
McDaniels was a passenger, TMZ reported, citing its sources. What caused the collision was not immediately clear.
His management confirmed the crash to AllHipHop, which spoke with a representative. “Yes he’s okay, they got into a accident on the freeway but everyone is okay,” the representative told the outlet.

KTLA’s report uses Citizen footage of the aftermath. In that account, the SUV had come to rest facing against traffic. Broken glass was visible inside, and the vehicle’s right side had sustained heavy damage.
Roadside video obtained by AllHipHop showed McDaniels standing and speaking with fire department personnel. The outlet obtained video from someone livestreaming from the roadside near the 105 Freeway and South Hoover Street.
A Familiar Voice
McDaniels formed Run-DMC with Joseph “Rev. Run” Simmons and Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell. The group came together in Hollis, Queens, in 1983.
Run-DMC entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, with Eminem handling the induction. The group’s songs include “King of Rock” and “It’s Tricky,” while its collaboration with Aerosmith on “Walk This Way” brought its blend of rap and rock to a wider audience.
The Hall credits Run-DMC as the first rappers to earn gold and platinum records. It also lists the group as the first rap act nominated for a Grammy and the first on MTV, milestones that preceded its Hall of Fame induction by decades.
The available accounts did not establish which driver was at fault. CHP later told TMZ the crash scene had been cleared.
