Nearly 106,000 Toyota Land Cruisers Recalled Over Fuel Leak Fire Risk

Toyota’s latest Land Cruiser has only been around for a few years, but some owners are already facing a potentially serious safety issue. The automaker is recalling nearly 106,000 examples of its hybrid SUV because a fuel line could disconnect and allow gasoline to leak.

The recall affects certain Land Cruisers from the 2024 through 2027 model years, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). A total of 105,794 vehicles are included in the recall population, although not all were sold in the United States.

The problem involves a connection between two fuel tubes near the gas tank. If that connection comes apart, fuel could leak out and potentially ignite if it encounters an ignition source.

Fortunately, Toyota has already outlined a repair procedure, and affected owners won’t have to pay for it. Here’s what Land Cruiser owners need to know.

A Small Fuel Line Connection Could Cause A Big Problem

According to the NHTSA recall report, a plastic fuel tube connected to the tank joins a metal tube that delivers gasoline to the engine. A retaining clip is supposed to keep the connection secure, but if the clip lifts, the tubes could separate.

If the tubes separate, gasoline could leak until the hybrid system’s combustion engine shuts off. The leaking fuel could also catch fire if it comes into contact with an ignition source.

The affected Land Cruiser uses Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, which combines a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor.

Toyota Dealers Will Fix The Issue For Free

Toyota dealers have been instructed to inspect the affected fuel tube connections and install an additional clamp to prevent separation. If necessary, technicians will replace the plastic fuel tube before fitting the supplemental clamp.

All inspections and repairs will be carried out free of charge. Toyota expects to notify affected owners by mail by December 13, 2026.

Owners can also check whether their Land Cruiser is included by entering its vehicle identification number (VIN) on Toyota’s recall website or the NHTSA’s online recall database.

What Owners Should Know

The recall covers certain 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 Land Cruisers, rather than every unit produced during those model years. Toyota’s recall documents identify the potential defect, but they do not establish that every affected SUV will develop a leak.

Toyota hasn’t established how many of the recalled Land Cruisers actually have the defective connection, and the recall doesn’t mean every affected SUV is leaking fuel. Owners should check their VIN through Toyota or the NHTSA and arrange a free inspection if their vehicle is included.
