Few muscle cars capture the attitude of the early 1970s quite like the Dodge Challenger T/A. With its aggressive styling, side-exit exhaust pipes, and unmistakable Six Pack V8, it was built to stand out.

This particular 1970 Challenger T/A wears eye-catching Hemi Orange paint, a black vinyl roof, and the distinctive matte-black fiberglass hood. It recently crossed the virtual auction block on Bring a Trailer, selling for $70,200 on October 17, 2026.

The car also has an interesting history, having originally been purchased from Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago. Its first owner paid $4,554.75 in July 1970, receiving a $1,200 trade-in credit for a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible.

Unlike many collector cars that appear at auction, this Challenger was offered without a reserve price. The sale included original purchase paperwork, a broadcast sheet, and several awards earned during its lifetime.

Dodge built roughly 2,400 Challenger T/As for 1970 to homologate the model for SCCA Trans-Am competition. The road-going version featured a functional hood scoop, black side stripes, a rear spoiler, and distinctive exhaust outlets ahead of the rear wheels.

Under the hood, there’s a 340-cubic-inch V8 with three Holley two-barrel carburetors mounted on an Edelbrock intake manifold. The engine was factory-rated at 290 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque, with power sent to the rear wheels through a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential.

The T/A also received upgraded suspension components, including front and rear sway bars and heavy-duty shock absorbers. Power-assisted front disc brakes provided additional stopping capability.

The Challenger retains its factory Hemi Orange color, although it was repainted under previous ownership. Its black vinyl roof, Rallye wheels, hood pins, and front spoilers complete the unmistakable T/A appearance.

Inside, black vinyl bucket seats are joined by a center console and Slap Stik shifter. Aftermarket additions include an AutoMeter tachometer, oil-pressure gauge, and Pioneer cassette stereo.

The car isn’t flawless, with a damaged rear seat, a burn mark on an armrest, and wear to the headliner. Its five-digit odometer displays approximately 71,000 miles, although the actual lifetime mileage isn’t established.

From A Chicago Dealership To A $70,200 Sale

The seller acquired the Challenger in June 2026 after it had spent years in Minnesota. It previously appeared on Bring a Trailer in September before returning for this successful no-reserve auction.

One BaT commenter claimed to have bid $77,000 for the Challenger at Mecum Harrisburg but was told it would take over $100,000 to buy the car. If accurate, that makes its eventual $70,200 selling price an interesting development.

With its documented dealership history, distinctive Trans-Am styling, and triple-carburetor V8, this Challenger has plenty of appeal for Mopar enthusiasts. Its latest sale also shows how much expectations and actual auction results can differ.
