I think it’s fair to say that police in Louisville, Kentucky, have come up with an unusual way to dispose of a confiscated Dodge Charger — it will be crushed by a monster truck in front of a live audience. The destruction will take place during a Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live event at the KFC Yum! Center on October 17.
The vehicle in question is a modified 2009 Dodge Charger equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8. Unfortunately for the car, investigators discovered that its powerful engine and numerous other components were stolen.
The Louisville Metro Police Department seized the Charger during an illegal street takeover at Shawnee Park in 2024. Now, authorities are turning its destruction into a public demonstration intended to discourage dangerous street racing and takeovers.
Rather than sending the car to an ordinary scrapyard, police have partnered with Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live for a much louder farewell. A rhinoceros-themed monster truck called Rhinomite will be waiting to deliver the final blow.
A Hellcat-Swapped Charger Full Of Stolen Parts
The confiscated Charger was found to have at least nine stolen components. These included its Hellcat engine, seats, wheels, transmission parts, electronic modules, exhaust system, suspension parts, and brakes.
The stolen parts were traced through Detroit, Michigan, and Indianapolis, Indiana, before eventually reaching Louisville. Its extensive modifications gave it far more performance potential than a standard Charger.
A Monster Truck Will Deliver The Punishment
The Charger is scheduled to be crushed during the Saturday evening Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Glow-N-Fire show, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Rhinomite, a rhinoceros-themed monster truck weighing approximately 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg), will carry out the destruction.
The event will give spectators an unusually dramatic look at how Louisville police handle certain vehicles confiscated during illegal street takeovers. Authorities hope the spectacle will reinforce the consequences of participating in dangerous driving activities.
Police Want To Send A Message
Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul L. Humphrey emphasized that drivers who endanger others during illegal street racing risk losing their vehicles. He also confirmed that the department intends to continue seizing cars involved in these activities.
Whether crushing a confiscated Charger in public will actually discourage illegal takeovers remains to be seen. What is guaranteed is that this Hellcat-powered Dodge is heading toward a dramatic ending, with potentially thousands of spectators watching its final moments.
