Two Virginia teenagers are facing serious felony charges after police say a violent carjacking left one person injured and ended with the stolen vehicle involved in a crash in a neighboring city. Their apparent getaway did not last long, as officers located three suspects inside the vehicle shortly after the initial incident.

According to the Waynesboro Police Department, officers responded to the 200 block of Oakbridge Drive on October 12, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m. following a report of a carjacking involving an injured victim. Upon arrival, officers spoke with an adult who told investigators their vehicle had been stolen and that the individuals responsible had already left the area.

Police provided medical assistance to the injured victim while other officers began investigating the scene and searching for the stolen vehicle. However, the search took an unexpected turn when authorities in nearby Staunton located the vehicle following a traffic accident.

Authorities detained three individuals in connection with the incident: 18-year-old Amiziah Lee Barbour, 18-year-old Niyanna Daiyonce Berkley, and a 16-year-old female. Barbour and Berkley were subsequently arrested on felony malicious wounding by mob charges, while investigators indicated that additional charges could follow as the investigation continues.

The Waynesboro Police Department said the incident began when officers were dispatched to Oakbridge Drive following a report of a carjacking that had left an adult victim injured. The victim told responding officers that their vehicle had been taken and that the suspects had fled, prompting police to begin searching for those involved.

Shortly afterward, officers with the Staunton Police Department encountered the stolen vehicle after it became involved in a traffic accident within their jurisdiction. Police detained three individuals found inside the vehicle, bringing the search to an end considerably sooner than the suspects might have anticipated.

Investigators identified the occupants as Barbour, Berkley, and a 16-year-old female, all described by Waynesboro police as local residents. Authorities arrested the two 18-year-olds in connection with the reported assault, although the department did not announce any charges against the juvenile or explain the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Two 18-Year-Old Suspects Held Without Bond as Victim Recovers

According to Middle River Regional Jail records, Barbour and Berkley were admitted into custody on October 13, 2026, following their arrests by Waynesboro police. Both face charges under Virginia Code §18.2-41, which addresses malicious wounding by mob, and their records confirm that neither was granted bond.

The jail identifies Barbour as an 18-year-old male from Waynesboro and Berkley as an 18-year-old female with a listed address in Fishersville, although police described both as Waynesboro residents. Their detention records list active custody statuses without scheduled release dates, while the police department has not announced any additional charges against either defendant.

Authorities confirmed that the carjacking victim was receiving medical treatment and remained in stable condition following the incident.
