An Uber Eats driver drove himself to a South Florida hospital after being shot in the buttocks outside a customer’s apartment complex, Local 10 reported. He was expected to survive his injury.

The shooting happened early Monday, October 12, outside the Pearl Dadeland Apartments in Miami-Dade County. A sheriff’s deputy responded to reports of a gunshot just after 3:30 a.m.

A bystander flagged down the deputy and described an altercation involving a group that had left minutes before deputies arrived. Around the same time, South Miami police reported that the injured driver had arrived at Baptist Health South Miami Hospital.

Miami-Dade’s booking information lists Khuslen Saruultuya, 33, as booked at 10:53 p.m. Monday. He faces separate criminal cases involving the shooting and drug charges.

The driver had delivered food to a woman at the building about an hour earlier and briefly spoken with her. He returned around 3:25 a.m., hoping to see her again and possibly obtain her phone number, but was unsuccessful.

As he headed back to his car, Saruultuya, identified in the report as the woman’s boyfriend, pulled up in a Chevrolet Corvette. In the account reported by Local 10, Saruultuya forced the driver to the ground at gunpoint, struck him with the gun, and shot him.

Saruultuya and the woman left before deputies arrived. Deputies later located and arrested him at his apartment, where they reported finding drugs and more than $11,000 in cash.

Uber told the television station it was continuing to examine the reported incident and would cooperate with police.

Before the Judge

The shooting case lists attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. During his court appearance, the judge ordered Saruultuya held without bond on the attempted felony murder count; the battery count carries a listed $7,500 bond.

The separate drug case lists trafficking charges involving amphetamines or MDMA, cocaine, and phenethylamine or ecstasy, along with possession-with-intent charges and a charge involving a place used for trafficking.

The drug entries describe approximately 95 grams of cocaine and 98 grams of ketamine, as well as 255 Adderall pills and 134 Xanax pills. An additional entry describes approximately 167 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.

During the court appearance, Saruultuya interjected, “Those are my prescriptions, though.” The judge instructed him not to discuss the facts of the case.

His booking record lists him at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with a pretrial detention hold noted in the shooting case.

All parties are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
