A late-night drive through downtown Atlanta ended with a Mercedes-Benz suspended above a highway ramp, its driver’s legs dangling from the wreckage as motorists stopped below.
The unusual crash happened on September 6, 2026, near Windsor Street, where a vehicle left an elevated ramp and became lodged in the concrete structure above another roadway. Videos captured by passing motorists showed the car trapped overhead, leaving witnesses struggling to understand what happened.
The 21-year-old driver was operating a black 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC. The vehicle’s airbags deployed during the crash, and emergency crews eventually used a crane to remove it.
An official crash report released by the Atlanta Police Department explains how the Mercedes left the roadway. Eyewitness footage provides another perspective, showing the extraordinary scene motorists encountered beneath the overpass.
Look Above
At approximately 11:30 p.m., the Mercedes was traveling along the Interstate 20 East ramp connected to the Interstate 75/85 corridor when the driver lost control.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, which published an incident report on September 9, the vehicle struck the median before flipping over the elevated roadway railing.
Instead of landing on the road below, the Mercedes became lodged in the overhead concrete structure.
The vehicle came to rest on its side, leaving its occupant in an alarming position above traffic. Footage from beneath the overpass showed the driver’s feet protruding from the wreckage, surrounded by concrete beams.
Something Overhead
Among the motorists who encountered the scene was Kalena Boykin, who was traveling with her partner when they became caught in traffic near the Interstate 20 entrance ramp.
Boykin captured footage that Storyful later verified and published on September 9.
At first, the couple believed traffic had stopped because of construction or a typical collision. When Boykin looked upward, she discovered a vehicle stuck above the roadway.
She recalled seeing the driver’s feet hanging out of a window while people nearby urged him not to move too much. Broken glass and debris littered the ground below the damaged vehicle.
Another witness, credited as The Hood DentistT?, separately recorded the scene and described encountering stopped traffic near the tunnel.
In an account provided to Storyful, the witness said he left his vehicle after noticing people pointing toward the overhead structure.
Looking up revealed a pair of dangling feet and the Mercedes trapped in the opening above the road.
The footage offered a perspective that the written crash report could not: the vehicle appeared wedged among concrete supports, with part of its occupant visible from below.
Crane Required
The official report identifies the driver as Asan John Baddoo, 21, and confirms that he was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital after the collision.
Although the report lists possible injuries, it does not describe their severity or provide a final medical diagnosis.
The airbags had deployed, and recovering the damaged Mercedes required specialized equipment. A crane lifted the vehicle from the overpass, after which South Metro towed it away.
The report identifies only one vehicle involved in the collision. It does not describe another vehicle striking the Mercedes or contributing to the initial loss of control.
The records also do not establish the cause of the driver’s loss of control. They provide no confirmed finding concerning impairment, speeding, or mechanical failure.
After The Crash
The crash was recorded under Atlanta Police Department incident number 262492509 and Georgia crash report number 10485531.
The department made an official incident-report entry available on September 9, three days after the collision.
Eyewitness recordings showing the Mercedes suspended over the highway made the crash widely visible, but the available report contains no final assessment of whether the driver committed a traffic violation.
The document also does not identify any criminal charges or provide a subsequent update on his medical condition.
The confirmed sequence ends with the driver being taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and the damaged 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC being removed from the overpass by crane.
