An August garage theft is getting a new public airing through CBS13’s October 12 report, which shares surveillance footage and owner James Lopez’s appeal for his missing 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle. Someone broke into his garage, found the keys, and drove away in about two and a half minutes.

The theft happened August 29, 2026, at approximately 4:12 p.m. in unincorporated South Sacramento, according to the Stolen 911 case listing. It identifies the car as a Chevelle SS 454 convertible taken from a single-car garage.

Classic-car enthusiasts, auto haulers, shop owners, and online marketplace users are being asked to watch for it. The listing’s surveillance-image caption describes a shirt marked “Dad” on the person taking the Chevelle.

“It’s like your baby,” Lopez said in the CBS13 interview. “So seeing someone violating my house was one thing, but also seeing someone steal something that’s kind of dear to your heart is something else.”

The Chevelle is gray/silver with a black soft top, two black center stripes, a black leather interior, and chrome/aluminum wheels. Its California license plate is 8WAM994.

Stolen 911 identifies the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office as the handling agency and says a report was filed, the car was entered into the law-enforcement Stolen Vehicle System, and a lookout alert was issued. Those details come from the recovery listing, which advises verifying its information with law enforcement.

People with information about the Chevelle can call or text the recovery listing’s tip number, 408-461-7714.
