Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies ended a vehicle pursuit rather than continue a chase they considered unsafe. The driver still did not disappear from the case.

The pursuit began during a Sept. 12 street-takeover enforcement operation after deputies saw a vehicle being driven erratically and believed the driver could be impaired, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies tried to stop the vehicle for California Vehicle Code violations, but the driver fled. LASD canceled the resulting pursuit for public-safety reasons.

The department said its Street Takeover Taskforce continued investigating, identified the driver, and eventually found the vehicle in Long Beach. LASD has not publicly identified the suspect.

Taskforce detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect on a felony evading allegation, along with a separate warrant authorizing the vehicle to be seized for 30 days.

Video released by LASD shows deputies locating the dark-colored car and having it loaded onto a tow truck.

The department’s post did not say the suspect had been arrested. reporting published Oct. 3 likewise described the driver as wanted at that time and said the suspect’s name had not been released.

What Comes Next

The investigation follows a broader series of Los Angeles County enforcement operations aimed at street racing and takeover activity.

In August, LASD reported 19 citations, six arrests, and four 30-day vehicle impounds during a separate targeted operation focused on illegally modified vehicles in several communities, including Compton, Carson, Lakewood, East Los Angeles, and Lynwood.FOX 11 reported that those arrests included allegations involving reckless driving, exhibition of speed, driving on a suspended license, and evading a peace officer.

For the Sept. 12 case, LASD said it plans to present the investigation to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration in filing.
