A traffic stop in Minnesota turned into an 18-mile pursuit involving a string of police agencies before the fleeing truck wound up inside a military training site.

The chase began when a Fridley police officer attempted to stop a driver identified by the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office as Burke.

Instead of stopping, Burke fled, beginning a pursuit that the sheriff’s office said lasted approximately 13 minutes and stretched across 18 miles.

Police from Fridley, Roseville, St. Anthony, New Brighton and Mounds View joined the chase, along with the Minnesota State Patrol and other agencies.

The pursuit eventually reached Arden Hills, where Burke drove the truck onto the Army Training Site before ending up in a ditch.

The sheriff’s office announced Burke’s capture with a simple declaration: “We caught him.”

Burke had a felony warrant involving dangerous drugs at the time of the pursuit, according to the sheriff’s office.

The agency also said he had previous convictions that included fleeing, DWI, operating a motor vehicle without a license, obstruction, disorderly conduct and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Burke was taken to jail following the chase. The sheriff’s office said he was awaiting additional charges stemming from the pursuit.
