An Oklahoma woman pulled over while driving a stolen SUV and already had some experience with the accusation police were about to make. Tulsa Police say 37-year-old Alicia Rae Kelley also had a felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle when officers stopped her on September 26.

The encounter began after Tulsa Police’s Real Time Information Center received an automated license plate reader hit on a stolen vehicle traveling south from the 800 block of North Sheridan Road. Officers were directed toward the vehicle, and one spotted a maroon Chevrolet Trax traveling eastbound on Admiral Place.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled into the Rest Inn & Suites at 7475 East Admiral Place. Police said Kelley stopped and was arrested without incident.

Kelley had an explanation for how she ended up behind the wheel of the SUV. According to police, she claimed she had purchased it for $500 earlier that day at a different hotel.

Tulsa Police said their investigation produced a much different account of how the Chevrolet Trax changed hands. The vehicle’s owner told investigators that her keys had been stolen from a slot machine at Osage Casino.

Investigators reviewed security footage that police say showed an unknown female taking the keys and driving away in the victim’s vehicle. The owner also told police she had never given anyone permission to drive or sell the SUV.

Police did not identify the hotel where Kelley claimed to have purchased the vehicle or provide additional details about the purported $500 transaction. The department’s release also does not state whether investigators identified Kelley as the unknown female shown taking the keys in the casino footage.

Stolen Vehicle Stop Comes With Familiar Warrant

Kelley was booked into Tulsa County on a possession of a stolen vehicle charge, according to Tulsa Police. She was also booked on the outstanding felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle.

That meant the September 26 traffic stop involved two separate stolen-vehicle matters, although the department did not provide details about the case underlying the outstanding warrant. Tulsa Police emphasized that Kelley’s arrest is not a conviction.

Guessing Headlights also searched the City of Tulsa Jail Hub for additional custody information, but could not locate Kelley’s name among the information publicly available at the time of the search. The absence of a matching entry does not establish her current custody or release status, and Tulsa Police’s announcement states that she was booked into Tulsa County.
