A failed prison drop of a large amount of contraband ended in a particularly weird way. The Florida woman who tried to deliver it ended up on the other side of the fence.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said that 31-year-old Makia Lashay Shivers of Broward County was arrested after deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person just outside of Martin Correctional Institution.

Shivers was found carrying bags with a vast amount of items that were intended for inmates inside the prison, including 464 grams of methamphetamine, 37 cell phones, K2/THC, cigarettes, alcohol, cell phone chargers, and shoes, along with other contraband, according to the sheriff’s office.

That amount of methamphetamine was enough for Shivers to face a trafficking charge, turning what started as a prison drop into a one-way ticket inside.

Not Alone

MCSO says that Shivers told deputies two men from Broward County convinced her to travel to Martin County and make the drop.

Shivers eventually became scared and ran from the men. The two men also left the area, leaving Shivers behind with the bags of contraband. That’s when deputies were called in, and arrested Shivers before she could even complete the drop.

MCSO did not provide additional information about the two men or say exactly what led Shivers to become scared and run away.

Quite the Delivery

The items that Shivers attempted to get into the prison made it significantly worse for her.

MCSO says that Shivers was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and introduction of contraband into a state prison facility.

An MCSO inmate search confirms that Shivers was arrested on Sept. 24 at 5:04 a.m., and she is currently being held at Martin County Jail without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office. There was no information released about whether the two other men involved were arrested or if there are warrants for their arrest.

People Had Questions

On Facebook, MCSO summed up the situation with the hashtag #WrongExit, noting that Shivers’ attempt to sneak the contraband in resulted in her ending up on the other side of the fence.

In the comments on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook post, several people wondered exactly how Shivers planned to get the contraband inside. A question that was also never answered in the post but could be revealed soon when investigators get more details.

Shivers is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
