A 43-year-old man was rushed to a Miami trauma center early Saturday with multiple deep cuts in what police described to a local news outlet as an apparent machete attack.

The man was found after Miami police officers and fire rescue personnel responded around 1:30 a.m. to the Coral Way area, near Southwest 18th Street and 23rd Avenue.

Miami Fire Rescue told Local 10 News that crews took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

Hours later, the questions surrounding his injuries had hardly cleared. Detectives returned to the area Saturday morning while neighbors pointed reporters toward a nearby home connected to the incident.

Back At The House

Local 10 video showed Miami police crime-scene personnel working along Southwest 18th Street after the overnight response. By Saturday morning, two detectives had returned while the television crew was reporting from outside the home.

People living along the street told the station that the incident was connected to the house. That connection had not been publicly established by police in the information available Saturday.

The news crew also saw several people leave the home. They did not tell the station what had happened.

Nearby, residents were seen using power washers on the sidewalk after police had spent hours at the scene.

What Happened?

That remained the central unanswered question.

The station’s television report said the victim had multiple deep lacerations that were possibly caused by a machete. An anchor separately described police as saying the wounds showed signs of an alleged machete attack.

No publicly available police account reviewed Saturday identified an attacker or explained what led to the man’s injuries.

His latest reported condition remained critical.
