A black Ford Mustang allegedly racing another vehicle on the Katy Freeway caught the attention of a Harris County Precinct 5 sergeant, turning the run into a traffic stop.

Constable Terry Allbritton’s office said the sergeant, assigned to the Toll Road Division, stopped the Mustang and detained the 17-year-old driver.

Two 18-year-old men were also riding in the car. Deputies continued investigating after the stop rather than wrapping things up with the racing allegation.

By the time they finished, the driver and one of his passengers were both under arrest.

Deputies also arrested the 18-year-old who had been riding in the back seat on an Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon charge.
