A newborn kitten in Texas had quite an introduction to the Lone Star State. According to the City of Kerrville, TX – City Hall Facebook page, the kitten was found by an employee at Peterson Health after someone reported hearing cries coming from their vehicle.
Apparently, the kitten had ridden in there all the way from Rocksprings, Texas. For those not familiar with the state, that means the kitten rode inside the vehicle for more than 76 miles (which works out to about an hour and a half)!
Fortunately, the kitten was no worse for the wear and is reportedly doing fine. Kerrville Pets Alive is currently caring for the kitty, since the organization is the one originally contacted by the employee at Peterson Health.
Because the little one is so young, Kerrville Pets Alive will have to prioritize partnering the kitten with the right adult cat to make sure the newborn is getting all of the love, affection, and milk that a growing kitten needs. Then, the baby will hopefully be ready to be put up for adoption.
The Kitten Was Discovered Inside the Engine Bay
The City of Kerrville’s Facebook page shared the details of the kitten’s story in a post on Sept. 2, 2026. Photos of the kitten and its daring rescue were also shared, including an action shot from when a few volunteers began taking apart the Peterson Health employee’s car to rescue the kitten.
“Hospital staff removed the vehicle’s front grille to safely reach the kitten, with City of Kerrville Animal Control Officer James Lee on scene to assist with the rescue and hand her off to Kerrville Pets Alive,” part of the post said.
A Foster Mom Will Care for the Newborn
Newborn kittens need to eat every two to three hours when they are first born, which means they need pretty much around-the-clock care. Fortunately, Kerrville Pets Alive sounds like it has the perfect mom for the job. “The kitten is now in Kerrville Pets Alive’s care, where she’ll be paired with a nursing mother,” the post about the kitten explained.
Kerrville Pets Alive’s Facebook page posted an update about the kitten after the “little hitchhiker settled,” sharing how well the kitten was doing. “It truly took a village to save this tiny life, and we’re incredibly thankful for every person who stopped what they were doing to make sure this kitten got a second chance,” the caption read in part.

Fortunately, the updates shared by the rescue also included plenty of cute new pictures and videos of the kitten (including an action shot of the kitten eating). It’s safe to say that this furry baby is adjusting well after such a big adventure.
While Kerrville Pets Alive hasn’t shared any updates about the kitten’s age or when the baby will be ready to move into its fur-ever home, it is very clear that this globetrotting kitten is going to be very popular once it’s ready to be adopted.
