Ferrari and Lamborghini have already received the Hollywood biopic treatment, and now another legendary Italian automaker is heading to the big screen. This time, the story goes back to the dangerous early years of motorsport and a family determined to turn a small workshop into a racing powerhouse.
The first teaser trailer for Maserati: The Brothers has arrived, offering an early look at a period drama filled with prewar race cars, narrow Italian roads, and the origins of the famous Trident brand. Much of the production was filmed in Italy, giving the movie an appropriately authentic backdrop.
The movie comes from producer Andrea Iervolino, who was also behind Ferrari and Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend. Director Robert Moresco, who won an Academy Award for co-writing Crash, is taking charge of Maserati’s story.
The names appearing on screen are equally notable, with multiple Hollywood veterans joining the production. Automotive enthusiasts, however, may be equally interested in the machines appearing alongside them.
Pacino And Hopkins Lead A Star-Studded Cast
Maserati: The Brothers brings together Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins, with Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba also joining the cast. Michele Morrone portrays Alfieri Maserati, while Salvatore Esposito plays Bindo, and Lorenzo De Moor takes the role of Carlo.
The film follows the Maserati family through the company’s formative years, including the financial pressures and personal struggles surrounding the fledgling automaker. The brothers began with a workshop in Bologna before building a name that would eventually become synonymous with Italian performance.
Filming took place at several locations across Italy, including Bologna, Modena, Rome, and the famous Cinecittà Studios. That setting should provide an appropriate backdrop for a story rooted heavily in Italy’s early automotive industry.
Maserati’s Indy 500 Victories Take Center Stage
The dramatic centerpiece appears to be one of Maserati’s greatest motorsport achievements. The company won the Indianapolis 500 in both 1939 and 1940 with Wilbur Shaw driving the Maserati 8CTF Boyle Special.
Those victories gave Maserati a unique place in racing history. It’s still the only Italian marque to have won the Indy 500, making the achievement a natural focal point for a movie about the company’s rise.
The teaser leans heavily into that racing heritage. Prewar machines can be seen competing wheel-to-wheel, capturing an era when drivers raced powerful cars at considerable speeds with comparatively little protection.
Maserati Joins A Growing List Of Automotive Biopics
Hollywood has shown increasing interest in the personalities and rivalries behind famous automotive brands. Maserati: The Brothers now has an opportunity to tell a less familiar story. While Maserati remains one of Italy’s most recognizable automotive names, the history of the family behind the Trident isn’t nearly as widely known as that of Carroll Shelby, Enzo Ferrari, or Ferruccio Lamborghini.
The movie is currently expected to reach theaters in late 2026, although its release plans vary by market. An October 15 date has been indicated for Italy but reportedly has not yet been formally locked in, while international distribution is still being arranged.
With Pacino, Hopkins, Garcia, and a collection of recreated prewar racing machines involved, Maserati: The Brothers certainly has the ingredients for an ambitious automotive drama. The first teaser suggests the filmmakers intend to put Maserati’s racing history firmly at the center of it.
