Ram is bringing the ProMaster City back for 2027, and price may be its strongest selling point. The new commercial van starts at $39,995, including destination, giving small businesses a much cheaper alternative to several larger work vans.
That starting price puts the ProMaster City thousands below the competition. It undercuts the Ford Transit by roughly $11,000, comes in well below the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and even costs less than Ram’s own full-size ProMaster 1500 Tradesman Cargo Van.
The value becomes even stronger when compared with Stellantis’ other people-hauling options, as the base ProMaster City is also $3,495 cheaper than the fleet-oriented Chrysler Pacifica LX.
Of course, the ProMaster City is smaller and less capable than full-size vans, so the comparison is not entirely apples-to-apples. For businesses that do not need maximum towing or cargo volume, however, its combination of price, usable space, and urban-friendly dimensions could make a lot of sense.
It Starts Below $40,000
The ProMaster City Tradesman Cargo carries a $37,400 MSRP before Ram’s hefty $2,595 destination charge. The better-equipped SLT Cargo starts at $38,900 before destination, while passenger versions begin at $40,100 and can seat up to eight.
Even the base Tradesman comes reasonably equipped for a work vehicle. Standard features include a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment screen, heated front seats, a digital rearview mirror, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column.
The SLT adds body-colored exterior trim, fog lights, 17-inch aluminum wheels, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and front parking sensors.
Smaller Than A Transit, Still Plenty Useful
The ProMaster City offers 167.1 cubic feet of cargo space and a load floor measuring 111.1 inches long. There is also 48.9 inches of width between the rear wheel wells, allowing it to carry common 4-by-8-foot construction materials and pallets.
Payload capacity tops 2,000 pounds, while towing capacity reaches 2,000 pounds when equipped with the available Class 3 hitch. Those figures are well below what larger vans such as the Ford Transit can manage, though they should be sufficient for many delivery, service, and light-trade applications.
A European Van With A Ram Badge
The new ProMaster City is based on Stellantis’ K0 van family sold overseas under names including Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert, Fiat Scudo, and Opel Vivaro. That also makes it larger than the previous ProMaster City, which was based on the Fiat Doblò.
Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels.
Production is scheduled to begin in Turkey later this year, with U.S. deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2027. For buyers who need a practical commercial van without paying full-size-van money, Ram’s pricing could make the ProMaster City one of the most compelling fleet bargains on the market.
