When we talk about the dog days of summer, we’re typically referencing that overly hot stretch of time between the start of July and the beginning of August. However, for Florida man Trey Decloedt, the dog days of summer may now be how he refers to the time he was arrested for allegedly breaking into his neighbor’s home to throw dog poop at the man.
According to Click Orlando, Decloedt was arrested in Leesburg over the weekend. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies say that the incident happened after Decloedt got frustrated with his neighbor, who he believed hadn’t been cleaning up after his dogs went to the bathroom outside.
To express his frustration, deputies allege that Decloedt entered the neighbor’s home without permission to launch the dog poop his way. Unsurprisingly, the incident escalated when both men became physical with one another.
Now, Decloedt stands charged with multiple crimes, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

They say your home is your castle, and nobody wants their castle surrounded by a moat of dog poop. But that may be exactly how Decloedt felt his home was starting to look after he claimed his neighbor had stopped cleaning up after his dog, prompting the attack.
But Decloedt’s neighbor didn’t take the fecal assault lying down, and deputies say that he physically tried to remove the man from his property. Unfortunately, Decloedt hit his neighbor in the head during the fight, and then Decloedt picked up a scooter over his head in a threatening manner.

Decloedt told deputies that it wasn’t unusual to enter his neighbor’s home unannounced, as the pair had an understanding that they were welcome at each other’s homes without notice. However, deputies say that the neighbor showed them proof that he had previously rescinded the open-door invitation to Decloedt, making the man persona non grata.
Now, the Florida man faces several charges, including simple battery, burglary with battery, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

“Not saying I approve, but I get it,” one person wrote. “I’m a dog lover. I live on a corner of the main road in our neighborhood. Multiple people don’t clean up their dog’s poop in my yard. It’s absolutely aggravating.”
Meanwhile, others thought the incident was likely about much more than poop. “This is a byproduct of the stressful environment we have been put in by our leaders,” one person wrote, citing things like higher cost of living, societal failures, and general frustrations with the state of the world.
“Yes, I agree that with the worsening economy, etcetera, more people go off the deep end,” another person chimed in. “However, I suspect this guy would have had a meltdown no matter what. And it is still my belief that the high heat and humidity have something to do with it.”
While we may never know whether there was anything more to the incident than the dog droppings, it’s clear that at least a few people can sympathize with someone who snaps over something small, especially when so many underlying stressors contribute to their frustration.
