Most of the stories that we publish on Guessing Headlights oftentimes have to do with a DUI, road rage incident, car crash, or something car-related. However, we’ll sometimes see a story that’s more wholesome than anything.

An officer within the Mount Pleasant Police Department captured what appears to be a meteor on their dashcam while out on patrol. The event happened on Monday, August 10 at about 1: 26 am.

What’s even cooler is that it almost seemed as though the officer was alone on the road when it happened. Of course, the department couldn’t just let the meteor fall and decided to make a wish on behalf of everyone in Mount Pleasant.

Considering that the day the meteor fell happened to coincide with the first day of school, it might be safe to say that everyone in the area had a great one.

Officer’s Overnight Patrol Comes With a Front-Row Seat to a Meteor

In the short video, you can see Officer Ezquerro driving along Highway 17 at 1:46 in the morning. There doesn’t appear to be anyone else on the road with him, which makes spotting the meteor even more special.

If you look closely, you can see a white streak shoot across the sky at the top right corner of the screen. In the caption, the department wrote, “Our wish is that everyone checks to make sure their cars are locked at 9 p.m. 🕘 and has a great first day of school tomorrow!”

Considering how early in the morning it was when the video was recorded, it could have very easily been missed. I’m glad it wasn’t!

Comments Are Looking Up After Dash Cam Catches Meteor

Commenters were impressed by the unexpected sight, with reactions ranging from a simple “Wow” to others thanking the Mount Pleasant Police Department for sharing the dash cam footage. One person also took a moment to thank officers working overnight, writing, “God bless the officers working overnights!”

Others pointed out that there could soon be plenty more to see in the night sky. One commenter reminded everyone about an upcoming meteor shower and encouraged people to keep an eye out during the night of August 12 into August 13.

Naturally, someone also found an opportunity to make a joke. Referencing National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, one commenter wrote, “That ain’t the friggin’ Christmas star, Griz,” before joking that the bright light was actually coming from a sewage treatment plant.

Overall, the reaction was considerably more wholesome than what you’ll typically find underneath a police department’s Facebook post. Between the meteor, the upcoming shower, and some appreciation for officers working the overnight shift, the dash cam managed to capture something people were actually happy to see for once.
