The Used Car Market Is Flooded With Lucid Air Luxury EVs Listed At Bargain Basement Prices

The Lucid Air entered the market as an ambitious American luxury EV with impressive range, performance, and technology. A few years later, some used examples are appearing for prices that would have seemed almost impossible when the cars were new.

Listings on Cars.com show used Lucid Air sedans dipping below $40,000, including relatively recent examples with modest mileage. That puts some cars in an entirely different price category from their original positioning as premium electric sedans.

The trend also lines up with depreciation research from iSeeCars. Its resale-value analysis estimates that the Lucid Air will lose 62.7% of its value after five years, which shows just how steep the depreciation curve could become.

For used-EV shoppers, that creates an intriguing opportunity. For owners who bought new, however, seeing a luxury car shed tens of thousands of dollars in value within only a few years is considerably less appealing.

Used Lucid Airs Are Getting Surprisingly Cheap

The Air Pure currently sits at the entry point of the sedan lineup, while Touring and Grand Touring versions occupy increasingly expensive territory. Used examples are now narrowing that enormous price gap considerably.

Recent listings include 2023 Air Pure models advertised around $36,000 to $37,000. Some 2024 and 2025 examples are also appearing around the $40,000 mark, depending on mileage, specification, condition, and location.

Those are asking prices rather than confirmed transaction values, an important distinction when evaluating depreciation. Even so, the listings demonstrate how far values have fallen compared with the prices these cars commanded when new.

Lucid’s own pre-owned inventory also adds pressure to the market. The company has offered 2024 Air Pure examples starting around $38,000, putting private sellers and independent dealers in direct competition with manufacturer-backed used cars.

Depreciation Hits Luxury EVs Hard

Lucid isn’t alone in dealing with substantial EV depreciation. Used electric vehicles can experience sharp value declines as manufacturers cut new-car prices, introduce incentives, improve battery technology, and release newer models with better specifications.

Luxury vehicles already tend to suffer significant depreciation, making expensive EVs particularly exposed when market conditions change. A car that was technologically cutting-edge several years ago may suddenly find itself competing against newer EVs offering similar capabilities for less money.

According to iSeeCars, the Lucid Air is projected to retain just 37.3% of its original value after five years. That translates to an estimated five-year depreciation of 62.7%.

The calculation remains a projection because the Air hasn’t been on sale long enough for every model to have accumulated a full five years of market history. Current used prices nevertheless suggest that depreciation is already a major consideration for Air ownership.

A Potential Bargain With Some Caveats

There is another side to falling resale values: buyers shopping used can access an extraordinary amount of car for the money. The Air is a sophisticated luxury sedan with strong performance, impressive range in certain configurations, and a distinctive interior.

A sub-$40,000 Air could therefore look tempting compared with similarly priced new EVs or conventional luxury sedans. Buyers should still investigate warranty coverage, battery condition, service history, insurance costs, and potential repair expenses before jumping on an inexpensive example.

Lucid’s longer-term business performance may also influence buyer confidence and resale values, although predictions about the company’s future should be treated cautiously. The automaker has continued developing and selling vehicles, including the Air and Gravity, while working to expand its customer base.

Bad News For Sellers, Interesting News For Buyers

Rapid depreciation can be painful for owners, particularly anyone who paid close to the original sticker price. It can also turn yesterday’s six-figure luxury EV into today’s surprisingly attainable used performance car.

The Lucid Air appears to be experiencing exactly that transformation. With some examples now advertised below $40,000, one of America’s most technologically ambitious luxury EVs is becoming accessible to buyers who might never have considered one new.

Would you buy a used Lucid Air for less than $40,000? Or would the steep depreciation make you worried about what the car could be worth a few years from now? Let us know in the comments.
