A traffic stop in Harris County, Texas, not only led to multiple auto theft tools and drugs being recovered, but also to a reunion with a familiar face. One of the involved suspects was previously arrested following a pursuit in a stolen Corvette, and he was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his newest handcuffing.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the incident started as a regular traffic stop. Although the reasons for the stop were not shared publicly, the suspects made themselves look guilty as ever.
In bodycam footage released by the HCSO, one of the suspects wearing a white shirt can be seen exiting his car. He then approaches one of the deputies in a possible attempt to talk his way out of a murky situation.
Unfortunately for him, he was wearing the evidence needed for his arrest. One deputy pointed out that the man was covered in weed, and he was immediately placed under arrest.
Drugs and Tools
A vehicle search followed, and many more illegal items were recovered. Dashcam footage shows a deputy removing various small plastic bags from the suspect’s vehicle and placing them on top of his cruiser.
According to the HCSO, these bags contained drugs. But these bags were not the only troubling findings.
Later, while searching through the vehicle’s trunk, the deputy found multiple tools. The sheriff’s office said that these tools were commonly used for carjackings. Both men were in deep trouble.
Ankle Monitor, Corvette Chase
However, one of the suspects caught the deputies’ attention for one simple fact. The man was wearing an ankle monitor, something one of the deputies pointed out.
Turns out, this individual was arrested back in January for leading the police on a pursuit. At the time, he was driving a Corvette, which had been reported stolen.
As reported by KPRC, the chase lasted for 16 miles, during which the driver was accused of running stop signs and red lights in a regrettable display of reckless driving. In the end, the chase came to an end after the Corvette sustained engine damage, causing it to fail on South Freeway.
Rearrested, Charged Again
The man, only identified as a 42-year-old, was placed under arrest. The HCSO detailed in its newest post that the man was charged with evading arrest an dunathorized use of a vehicle in connection with the Corvette incident.
This time around, he and the other suspect, neither of them identified, were charged with unlawful use of a criminal instrument. The HCSO added, “Proactive policing helps deputies intervene before more crimes can be committed.”
