A man in Sagadahoc, Maine, is facing multiple charges after allegedly engaging in a violent road rage incident with another driver. Authorities said that after cutting off the driver, the suspect pulled out a gun and pistol-whipped him.
According to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the incident occurred on July 23. During the morning, a Woolwich motorist called 911 and reported that he had been assaulted during a road rage incident on Old Stage Road.
According to the victim, another driver began tailgating him. Eventually, the vehicle cut him off and stopped right in the middle of the roadway.
Both individuals, the victim and the suspect, got out of their vehicles right afterward. The victim attempted to photograph the suspect and his vehicle. That’s when things escalated further and almost turned deadly.
Alleged Assault
This photographing attempt didn’t come to fruition. The suspect drew a handgun and pointed it at the victim, demanding the phone he was trying to gather evidence with, the SCSO said.
The victim refused, and a chase took place shortly after. As the suspect chased down the victim, he is accused of using his handgun to strike him in the head.
Then, the sheriff’s office detailed that the suspect fired a single shot directed at the victim. Fortunately, he was not hit, although he was left shaken by the close call.
Sketch Made, Evidence Found
Deputies responded to the scene and came across the victim. He described the suspect and his vehicle, and the SCSO even shared a forensic sketch of the suspect, which, in retrospect, was spot on.
Deputies also recovered a handgun holster from the scene. Additionally, a spent 9mm shell casing was found, which aligned with the victim’s story.
The SCSO started canvassing the area in search of witnesses and security camera footage. The latter was found, which provided “crucial images of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle.”
Suspect Identified, Arrested
Through a list of possible suspect vehicles, deputies managed to isolate a single one. The owner, therefore, the suspect, was identified as 67-year-old Jamie Kramer, a Dresden resident.
Deputies with the SCSO and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Kramer’s residence. Evidence related to the incident was seized by law enforcement agents.
The elderly man was cooperative during his arrest and was then transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
