I didn’t expect to wake up today to write about yaoi and femboys who like cars, but here we are. An Austin, Texas, car influencer took to X to say the Texas DMV took their license plate.
For context, the vanity plate reads, “I❤️YAOI.” The influencer, who goes by the name Amber in real life and aSpicyCow on the social media site, said that he had simply applied for the plate.
However, it appears that after driving it around for a while, someone who spotted it on the road called the police and reported the plate. Amber believes that the complaint was sent by an angry neighbor or internet troll.
What’s interesting is that he revealed a few other plates he had that I would think would have been reported too if anyone had seen them.

The video above was posted to his X profile, where he starts it off by saying, “Texas is stripping us of our rights.” He then shows off the plate, which is currently attached to his pink Toyota Supra.
It reads “I❤️YAOI” in white across a black background. He then reads aloud some of what the documentation that was sent to him says.
“The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles recently received a complaint about your personalized license plate with the pattern I❤️YAOI.”
The letter then provides the exact code that was violated, including indecency.

For context, yaoi is a genre of entertainment that focuses specifically on the romantic relationships between male characters. In recent years, the term has become somewhat of a meme in various communities
Regarding whether the Texas DMV has the right to make this decision, the DMV told KXAN it can revoke vanity plates that no longer comply with its current rules.
Driver Vows To “Come Back Stronger” After Losing the Plate
So, even though the plate was initially approved, it was likely by accident or done so before any changes directed at vanity plates were put into law.
For now, Amber still has the vanity plate, alongside another that says BOY❤️KISR. He then ends the video by saying, “Whatever Karen filed the complaint, just know I always come back, and I come back stronger.”
