A motorcycle thief probably had one of the worst days of his life after fleeing on a stolen motorcycle, not knowing that the amount of fuel left in the tank would leave him waiting for police on the freeway.
Given that a similar incident was recently reported, should motorcycle owners fill only a quarter or half tank to prevent their motorcycles from getting stolen?
It might seem that way because the thief in this case likely had no idea until the fuel gauge informed him of what was to come.
The incident from Los Angeles has gone viral on social media, with aerial footage showing the thief attempting to escape before eventually surrendering to police.
Thief’s Escape Ends After Weaving Through Traffic at 139 MPH
The video posted on Instagram by FOX 11 Los Angeles shows the thief swerving dangerously through traffic on I-405 and reaching speeds of 139 mph.
Wearing a red backpack, the thief could then be seen switching lanes abruptly and riding onto an exit shoulder in a bid to outrun the police. The footage then cuts to him parked on the shoulder, kneeling in front of the motorcycle with his hands behind his head.
Although no police car was seen around him at that time, the thief knelt with his hands behind his head to signal he was surrendering. After all, being on the freeway ramp meant he had nowhere to run.
The thief’s identity, where he stole the motorcycle, and whether he was charged have not been disclosed.

Similar Story With Minor Differences
In another similar incident that Guessing Headlights reported from Michigan, a police pursuit involving a biker has surfaced on social media, showing him riding the wrong way on the right shoulder at speeds of up to 140 mph.
Footage captured from the Michigan State Police’s Trooper 2 helicopter showed the rider having close calls with oncoming traffic before he eventually exited the freeway.
Although the real reason why the pursuit began is not known, the biker stopped suddenly and surrendered himself to the police. Instagram users speculated that he had run out of fuel, adding an unexpected twist to the story.
The pursuit began in Detroit on Charles Street before the biker rode into Oakland County. He was then seen dangerously weaving through traffic at triple-digit speeds.
He could be seen stopping abruptly to make a U-turn and ride against the flow of traffic on I-75 between 9 Mile and 14 Mile. He got dangerously close to several cars coming his way, putting numerous lives at risk.
Then, he suddenly crossed the road and exited the freeway, almost getting knocked out by a car in the process. Meanwhile, the Trooper 2 helicopter kept track of the biker.
The scene then shifts to the biker stopping at the shoulder and lying face down on the road, ending the hour-long pursuit. He was arrested by Davison Twp. police.
The reason for the abrupt stop remains unknown, but the biker immediately lay face down on the road after stopping, suggesting he had decided to surrender.
