One Colorado homeowner thought he was simply grabbing something from his truck while working in his front yard, but instead, he got a much bigger surprise.
He opened the passenger door, jumped back in disbelief, and found himself nearly face-to-face with a black bear in the front seat.
Captured on a nearby home security camera and shared by Steamboat Radio on Facebook, the encounter quickly made the rounds online.
Online, viewers couldn’t help but laugh, with one commenting, “We need the Ozzy Man narrative!” while another joked, “I love Steamboat locals and their relationships with bears.”
The Bear Didn’t Just Wander In
According to Steamboat Radio, the incident happened near Clubhouse Drive in Steamboat Springs, where residents have recently spotted a mother bear and her cubs in the neighborhood.
The unusual encounter actually started before Kerrigan opened the truck door.

The bear reportedly pulled the window away from the door frame, climbed inside, and searched through the vehicle, causing considerable damage before anyone discovered it.
Security Camera Captured Everything
A nearby home security camera recorded the moment Kerrigan walked up to his truck and realized he had an unexpected passenger.
The footage shows him quickly backing away before grabbing a long wooden board and making enough noise to encourage the bear to leave.
After lingering inside the truck for a few moments, the bear climbed out through the driver’s side and wandered away
Why Bears Keep Breaking Into Vehicles
Bears rely heavily on their powerful sense of smell and will often investigate anything that could contain food—or even something that smells interesting.
Coolers, snack wrappers, pet food, drinks and scented products can all attract curious bears.
Once inside a vehicle, they can cause thousands of dollars in damage while searching for a meal.
That’s why wildlife officials recommend keeping vehicle doors locked and windows rolled completely closed whenever bears are active in the area.
The Truck Wasn’t Its Only Stop
Apparently, the truck wasn’t the bear’s only destination that day.
Kerrigan later shared another video showing the same bear scratching at the cover of his backyard hot tub.
The laid-back visitor seemed unbothered before eventually wandering away.
